Hi Guys
I got my new phantom a few weeks ago and noticed in the last couple days that there are some black marks around the breech seal, what is causing it? the metal itself is not gouged or anything but there is some blackening? would it be the finish on the gun wearing off around the breech? the pic I uploaded here is not the best but you might be able to see. Thanks

| It does appear to just be lead dust and oil- wipe it off with some tissue paper or such as it accumulates. |

| I went to wipe it off but its still there, almost like its burnished on the steel. Its funny cause you can see it in some light and not other, lol. I dont think its a problem though, its not scraped or gouged , just a discoloring of the steel |

| Makes me wonder if it was maybe always there but covered up at first with the lube that is on the o-ring. Perhaps now some of the lube is rubbed off allowing you to be able to see the minor discoloration. |

Yeah thats what I maybe thought, not a problem though right?
I dont think its dieseling, I have only had the gun a few weeks and havent applied any lube. |

| Believe it or not that is probably the most common time for dieseling (unless it is done intentionally) because of all the gunk / preservatives that are in the barrel of new guns. |

No, not a problem. In time, you might want to add some new lube to the o-ring just to assure a good, tight seal when the barrel is returned to its upright position.
I have a paste silicone lube that I used to use to seal the o-ring on watch-backs in the jewelry business if a customer had a leaky watch. |

| When I bought the Big Cat I used to have it had the same thing right out of the box in the same place. Same thing, visible in some light and not others. Keep wiping it even if it doesn't come off cause mine turned into rust pretty quick for some reason |

You can wipe it and that's OK. But I recommend you treat your nice air rifles like powder burners and keep them oiled and protected. I coat all my guns with Johnson's Paste Wax. Wipe it on...let it sit for a minute...wipe it off. Leaves an oil-free rust preventing coating. |

Many, many moons ago I read an article (Field & Stream, I think) about "weatherizing" guns for hunting in extreme damp conditions. They advocated taking the action out of the stock and hitting everything with paste wax. |
