Anyone know of any major differences? I'd stick with walther. I've found that several German brand models at around $ 100 were quite well made, and some had real clip magazines where you insert the CO2 cartridge and the pellets. I take it your son is between 4 and 7 years and the airsoft gun should be much safer as they are meant to be shot at people. There are many for about $75-$150 that are co2 powered, semi auto, shoot inexpensive 6mm BBs. I have a spring powered pistol for shooting on the couch, and it's quite fun. He is 6 years old. I should try to crack the case open and lighten the spring, it would be a great gun for him. I was considering giving him a tuned down 300fps 1740. I was thinking of converting a 1740 to a carbine for my 6 year old. The main idea was to add a longer barrel, small forearm and lower the output of the airgun. Replacing the breech with a short aluminum breech, adding a velocity adjuster and lightening the hammer should keep it functional for the little one. I think the 1740 would be just long enough for a small forearm.
