Here is the big cannon completed and firing guys enjoy. In the 2nd video the cannon was shot with 400 grains of FFFg powder, and it kicked back about 10 ft. The cannon weights about 14 bl.s . Very powerful with this charge guys., but it was ok. I will only use 250 - 300 grains now.

Heh heh heh. It flew away in the second video! Either chains or maybe a sliding rack like on 18th Century boats to keep it in place.

Any idea how far your projectile is going?

Brilliant! There Ricky, I played the second video first, and it gave me the first laugh of the day, the gun went one way and the charge the other, but what was really funny was that one second it was there, the next nothing but a cloud of smoke, you should be a magician.

Umm...safety??? What is the purpose of the screw driver flying up? I hope the guy lighting the cannon went and stood behind a lexan sheild or something.

You can get killed up really easy with accidents when you mess around with explosives. I heard about a guy recently who made a "sparkler bomb" and it accidentally detonated on his porch and killed him. Now I want to know how you take the most harmless firework known to man and turn it into a lethal IED?

Gee Roger... The danger is half the fun!!! Go outside and play!!! If you are having a good time and get a scar... You will have more to remember it by. Besides that Chicks dig scars... I got a new one on my leg when installing my wife's wheel chair ramp... She even kissed it all better...

Hey Richard,

Can you give us something to scale the the canons by when you take your photos? I can't really tell just how small/big they are...

Joe

I like the looks of those wheels. They just look too cool to even let them
touch the ground. What wood did you use for them?

I think its more of an aesthetic piece. The wheels look cool if its sitting on a mantle. That thing is little more than a pistol attached to some wheels.

Yes We thought that was funny too one min it was there and the next gone. We stud behind a car and the camera was on a log filming away. Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing .

One is maybe a 1/25 scale and the other one is maybe a 1/16 scale.

So one is 25 times smaller than the real one, and the other is 16 times smaller.

Stay safe and have fun.

You should put a load of "cannister shot" in there....essentially just a table spoon full of bb's. Or if the guage is right, put a dozen, nickels or dimes in there instead. Then put a bunch of objects about 20 feet in front of it and let her rip.

I'm glad to hear that you hid behind something when firing it. Seeing screwdrivers and pieces of material flying about is a little scary.

I was thinkng of makeing a aluminum slug to fire in it. and put 4 peices of 3/4 in plywood in front of it about 30 feet and see what happens. But I will tape that one by myself. alone, and one person to watch far away. Just in case.

Say safe and have fun. Richard

What would be the problem with a heavier metal slug than aluminum? Like steel or lead?
