I bought a RWS 34 a little over a year ago I think. It has been a fine rifle for the money and shoots very good groups with the right pellet. The last week or two, I have a feist pup that has started treeing squirrels and I have shot a few out to him with this rifle. A few days ago, I took aim at a squirrel and when I squeezed the shot of there was a loud bang (almost like a .22). The barel was not fully closed. Not sure how that happened or if I knocked it open going through the woods. The O-ring seal and washer popped off the breech of the barrel, but luckily fell on a bare spot of ground and I found them. This has happened 3 times in the last couple of days. This has never happened in he past and now all of he sudden 3 times. Not sure why? The rifle shoots and seems OK, but I have not had a chance to shoot it off a bench for accuracy. Did I do any damage to the rifle? Any ideas what might be going on?

Yes as well as being unsafe you can damage your rifle. Does it feel different or easier to break and cock the barrel, is there any play. Is it just mysteriously breaking open as your about to pull the trigger. I'm not familiar with the detent set up on that rifle, is there a set screw loose.

I'm wondering if the "locking ball" (I don't know what the real name for it is) is missing ? It looks like the ball locks under a little portruding piece and locks the barrel after cocking it. If either one of these pieces is loose or missing I can see how the barrel would open when shooting. Just a guess as I just got my 34 last Monday.
