I have been airrifle hunting sence i was a kid and have had many. But i am new to the fourm and the trems used. Foot Pounds and Joules (metric system) are both measures of kinetic energy. It's a combination of velocity and mass - heavy and slow could have the same FPE as light and fast. It's useful when comparing two guns when one manufacturer advertises a high velocity in FPS (but with light pellets), while another advertises lower velocity with more commonly available (and heavier) pellets. It also relates to hunting if you use the rule-of-thumb of one FPE per pound of animal at the minimum (assuming you can place the shot correctly). In addition, some countries have different regulations for airguns above a certain "power" level - and that's FPE.
