| Hello my new Friends. I have been airrifle hunting sence i was a kid and have had many. But i am new to the fourm and the trems used. I understand most ... but one that gets me is FPE its just not clickin. what does it mean feet per what. |

FPE= Foot Pounds Energy
Instead of the Velocity, FPE is basically "Knockdown Power." |

Welcome to the forum!
Foot Pounds and Joules (metric system) are both measures of kinetic energy. It's a combination of velocity and mass - heavy and slow could have the same FPE as light and fast. It's useful when comparing two guns when one manufacturer advertises a high velocity in FPS (but with light pellets), while another advertises lower velocity with more commonly available (and heavier) pellets.
It also relates to hunting if you use the rule-of-thumb of one FPE per pound of animal at the minimum (assuming you can place the shot correctly). In addition, some countries have different regulations for airguns above a certain "power" level - and that's FPE.
There is a formula for calculating kinetic energy, but it's easier to use the calculator that you'll find on the opening page of this site:

| Thanks Guys that was very helpful. It's pretty much just squirrel, rabbit and some birds here. my .177 at 1400 fps is doing the trick. |
