I currently own a Beeman R7. I've been eyeing the Gamo whisper deluxe, but now I'm wondering if I'd be ahead to put a scope on the Beeman. I assume the scope on the Gamo must be sort of cheap and may have to be replaced anyway. That's a big step down. RWS makes a couple guns that would do the trick for you. These are Arizona ground squirrels, maybe 6-8" long and skinny. Doesn't take much to take them out. So the Gamo is junky compared to the Beeman? People seem to like the Gamo, but maybe they've never had a nice gun before either... Any recommendations for a good scope? Also, my R7 is about 25 years old. Anything I should be thinking about maintenance wise to keep it going? It seems to be grouping well, but there must be some seals in there someplace that are getting tired. I have the Whisper and it was a total waste of money. The Dampener doesnt work, and it is hard to group. Also, yes the scope are Crap as well. I bought 2 and the Crosshairs broke cracked!   Posted: Fri Jun 17, 2011 2:41 pm LDH® Member Joined: 29 Apr 2011 Posts: 66 Location: By the ocean Man, Gamo takes a bad beating around here LOL I don't have a lot of experience with pellet guns, but I can shoot 1" groups all day long with my Gamo Big Cat at 35 yards and I make ground squirrel kills at 50+ yards on a regular basis. Gamo Ammo is probably the absolute worst of any brand I have ever tried so I switched to Predators, but I just don't have any issues with the rifle itself even after a couple thousand rounds. It is a very accurate gun for the money but even shooting a Quest felt like a big step up in overall quality/solidness, and that's $30-40 cheaper! First three where bought when I first got into adult airguns. Two S1k in .177 cal and a custom S1k with a .22 barrel. When the Gamo Whisper came out with a gas ram, I picked one up in 22 cal. Now for the truth. That Whisper was a piece of dog do. Had to put a new trigger in it because after about 20 shots your trigger finger would be bruised. After the new trigger the Whisper still wouldn’t group below inch at 30 yards. The Whisper was no quieter than the old s1ks and had just as rough shooting cyclical. I have shot less than 400 pellets threw the thing in the three years that I have had it. The good thing about that whisper was it pushed me into the dark side. And I don’t mean into the grey side of the dark side, I mean deep down where go light shines. PCPs are all I’ll buy now and shoot. Mind you, you don't wanna buy them new. It won't compare to a Weihrauch. That R7 will do the job nicely, I'm sure. Gamo/BSA scopes are affordable and pretty good. I got 2 Leapers UTG 4x32AO with caps and Weaver mounts shipped from Amazon for 72 bucks including shipping. Yes, what Broom said is true. Gamo is a good gun after they are “fixed up”. All three of my s1ks are tuned and I have spent more on tunes than the guns cost but they are fair shooters now. Now days after gamo guns have double in price, it’s not as cost effective (to me) to spend another 150 plus bucks to have it tuned.
