I read a post earlier where someone asked how PCPs
are filled. I can't find it again, so decided to post this here
as it pertains to Airforce guns.

I use two of the three methods available. A hand
pump and a 100 cubic foot 3300 psi SCUBA tank.

When I'm at home or close to my truck I use the tank.
It makes life a lot easier. When I'm out hunting/pest control
I backpack the pump. It's easier to pack a 4 lb pump than a
42 lb aluminum tank with 5 lbs brass valve around.

It's pretty easy. First cock the gun so that there's no
strain on the valve (very thin stainless tubbing).

Detach the bottle from the gun by unscewing 1.5 turns.

You then fasten the fill clamp to the SCUBA tank,
screw the bottle into the fill clamp finger tight,
close the bleed valve

and SLOWLY open the
SCUBA tank valve paying very close attention to the gauge.

When 3000 psi is reached you close the SCUBA tank valve,
open the bleed valve and unscrew the gun bottle from the
SCUBA tank.

Same thing for the pump only now you have basically
a 180 pump BB gun. Just kidding. No steel allowed
in this mirror finished barrel. My friends that smoke cigs
hate the pump. It's a real workout with the last 15-20 strokes
being around 180 lbs.

You do not want to overfill or you will rupture the burst dic
and have to send the gun in for repair. I think also that this
would void the lifetime warranty.

I hope that this is of use and/or helps someone grasp this
concept.

PCPs are a pain in the butt from what I've seen, but that condor is still badass.

Have you ever owned or used a PCP?

I used to be a springer guy, I didn't care for
PCPs at all. I still have my favorite springer, a
made in England 2003 .22 caliber ported gas
Webley Patriot with trigger tune by Dave Slade.
It pushes 21.5 grain Kodiaks at 850-856 fps.
It's a real workout to shoot, but just hammers
the target.

But then I shot a friend's DQ .308 and was hooked.
I now like both springers and PCPs, but mostly shoot
my PCPs.

Nope. Never seen one, heard one, or used one. But I've read what people say about them. They are apparently loud, like co2 air rifles. And I can only imagine how big of pain in the but filling them must be. But they are powerful and consistent. And most importantly, no reverse recoil.

Acctually the Condor on high with a 29 grain pellet
has some recoil. Nothing compared to a springer though.

The .308 DQ has quite a bit of kick for an airgun
and will have even more I suspect when I get it back
from having a .40 caliber barrel installed and port work
done.

The noise level is very easy to fix. They can be made
WAY more quiet than any springer. They are way easier
to be accurate with. Super easy to fill, my 10 year old
Daughter can do it with my instruction.

I bet that you could alleviate a lot of
your wounding game problem with a PCP and some
high end glass.

And you should put in a lot of target
practice before you even think of putting your reticle
on something living again.

thats great information cw, i always use to wonder how do you charge a PCP but now i know.. Mr. Green

but once the tank is done with its contents how do you refill the tank ? and how much does that cost ?

Also how many shots you can shoot using one tank which is attached to the gun... ? or in other words after how many shots you need to rechard your gun ?

I Go to the local SCUBA shop and refill mine(I consider the tank empty at 2500 and refill to 3450 psi) charges 5 bucks and will refill the pony tank enough times to fire 500 plus pellets.

The pony tank on the gun will get Me somewhere around 30ish full power shots.
but with the power set on the lower end of things 50 plus flat trajectory shots Mr. Green

I thought the same thing when I first debated a PCP. My main thought was the start up cost of course. Then once I shot one which was a Talon I was hooked one might say. It takes me about 1 minute at most to top the tank off and start shooting. And that is from the time I place the gun in a safe spot; get my scba tank; connect the fitting and begin putting air into the gun.

When you think of the recoil not being there and the fact you can shoot some powerful shots then a PCP is a marketable gun for one to have. The floor pump would be a pain but I cycle so I am use to pumping a floor pump too.

I love a PCP but will always have my springer close by.

The report can be lessened if you can get the gun equiped with a shroud and you can make it into a backyard rifle.

If you ever get the chance to try one do so; you may be impressed.

You stay where you are Roger anybody can shoot a PCP but only an airgunner can shoot a springer, anyway you don't want a girly gun. Laughing

If I'd ever get to choose between a Weihrauch PCP or an Air Arms PCP, I'd go for the Air Arms. The HW100 is one ugly son of a mother (<-half a word). Mr. Green

As soon as I can find someone near to me who can fill a tank I'll get one, and I do like the S400 but I'm afraid it would have to be a Phoenix Mk2 carbine.
