I'm considering a (gasp Shocked

) Gamo. I know they aren't exactly the "peak" of the market, espicaly here, but... I'm thinking about the Stutzen. It has good reviews and the RWS runs nearly $600, beyond what I can go.

I've read some...disparaging thoughts on Gamo here, and up to now I don't own one. Anyone whose's tried the Stutzen, I would also be greatful to hear.

My favorite springer right now is a .25 Webley I bought some years ago. Unfortunatly it's no longer available as it was made in England. Since then the company has been sold and the rifles with that name now aren't the same.

Airgundepot lists it for about $315, that's what I'm looking at. The RWS stutzen had been on sale for $399 but "I missed it"( Crying or Very sad

I plan to make a purchase fairly soon (God willing and nothing else bad happens top take the funds). I was looking at the magnum springers, but I don't get out into the woods anymore, so i really don't need that much power. (though to be honest, I may end up getting one later anyway, you know how it is).

I've read that the Gamo stutzen has decent power (it is a .177 so, I probably wouldn't go for any game larger than a squirrel, but I'm not planning to use it for hunting) and it's supposed to be very accurate. Mostly I plan to use it for "field targets" or as we used to say, plinking.

By the way, it's the RWS that normally costs $540, sorry if I wasn't clear on that. Embarassed

Hey AirGunEric,you said earlier that my AccuShot needs tuning to perform well.How exactly do I tune one?I've never heard of tuning an airgun.I would'nt mind getting that one shooting good too if possible.

I think the Gamo Stutzen utilizes the same powerplant as all their other rifles. May be even less powerful. It does have a different cocking mechanism (underlever, which is better imho). The main appeal is the look, with the all wood stock all the way to the end of the barrel. It probably make a nice starter rifle. Maybe even better quality than the rest of Gamos stuff.

I have read several reviews on the rifle, ( http://www.americanairgunhunter.com/gamostutzen.html, http://www.airgundepot.com/stutzen.html, this is admittedly from a retail outlet, http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews91643.html only one review here, http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1G1-76558927.html) If you search you can find more. This is all I've got however, reviews, I don't know anyone who actually has one. By the numbers it will hit well over 1100 fps with a pba pellet, and the accuracy is pretty good. By all accounts it's a good gun, but like any it's always a sort of crap shoot when you buy. The only gun I ever bought and ended up baddly disappointed with was a Gamo co2 pistol. (and I have both Crosman Quest rifles .177 and .22 they both shoot well, keeping in mind they're $100 rifles). I plan to "hopefully" get one of these in a month or two, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed. I'll try to remember to reprt back if I do get it.

I'm sort of drawn to the new magnum springers to. I was looking for an under or side lever (I've got a few break barrels) and liked the Stutzens. When i started looking a couple of places had the RWS on sale, but I didn't have the cash to lay out just then. The Gamo is better than $200 less and looks good on paper. After that I'm hoping to try either the Benjamin Super Streak or the Diana RWS 350 Feuerkraft. I'm probably like most of you guys. The answer to how many guns is enough is always "at least one more".
