| Does anyone know how to properly remove the front sight on a Gamo CFX? I'm mounting a big scope and would like to get the iron sights off there. It looks like the rear one just has a screw holding it on but I'm not sure about the front. I'd like to leave the muzzle break on. Thanks for any help. |

| It's closest to style "B". It's hooded and mounted to the muzzle break. |

From what I've seen of all the Gamo's- the sight piece (with the fiber optic strand) are all slide-out units- like the one in (A) above.
The (B) style unit I'm not familiar with- but I would bet it slides out as well. It looks as though that tab sitting up against the sightpiece may be what is retaining it. Can you move/wiggle that tab at all in order to push the sight out from the side? |

| It's definately style B with no moveable tabs and I can't see if there's a dovetail under the front sight because of the hood that fits over it. How do I get the hood off? I don't really want to mutilate it in case I want to reinstall it later. |

| That 'tab' piece must be movable, or at least somewhat flexible to be lifted up. It is obviously either a retainer, or possibly a cover for a set-screw. Can you get a small screwdriver under the rear edge and see if you can peek underneath? |

| That tab is hard plastic and doesn't lift up. Prying on it would just break it off. There's a set screw farther back on the muzzle break but nothing moves when I take it out. There's also what looks like a small roll pin way up front under the barrel. I'll punch that out and see if the whole muzzle break comes off. Maybe I can get to the sight attachment then. |

If that 'tab' type assembly isn't going to move- you're probably right- the muzzle needs to come off to get the sight removed. Very few manufacturers have "easy to remove" front sights- many are glued in place where only heat and pressure will remove them, some need to be knocked out from inside the barrel tube with a dowel (i.e. some Crosman's with a barrel shroud), other with setscrews that are often hidden.
Far too often it seems, people doing any work on airguns find themselves replacing the front sight- i.e. it breaks and then they can see how it's affixed to the barrel/tube. Fortunately, most manufacturers don't charge alot for front sights (the Gamo (A)-type sight above is typically around $20 (US) for both pieces from what I've been told). |
