This one has me very puzzled??I have never seen the likes of a pistol like this.
(OK Eric nows your time to shine!!! LOL)
I have not posted this anywhere but here,so I am counting on you!!
It is a smooth bore spring pistol the frame is made of Baklite with metal barrel, main spring, piston, spring guide and trigger group it has the HS lable on the grips. So I know it is a HI-SCORE,there are no other numbers on it anywhere. It does say made in W Germany on the left side of the frame just above the trigger guard..It is cocked by pushing in the barrel until it locks the sear.Once it is cocked there is a little pin sticking out of the back which unscrews to put a BB into the barrel.I have lube tuned it and polished the sear and trigger group. It must have been in a very safe place because it is in near mint condition and all parts are with it.It has about the same power as a Marksman 1010 MAYBE! 300fps to 350fps.When you pull the trigger to shoot it the barrel flys forward and out comes the BB.LOL, defininetly not a target pistol but I can hit a 30 gallon garbage can at 10 meters with it.Its almost as if it was a toy but it could surley put out an eye ball. The hole in right side of barrel is for lubrication.

I just love finds like this.

Funny thing- it's older- but doesn't seem to have ANY of the Hy-Score features to it on the grips. Perhaps this was a Hy-Score (Diana made) import- but was obviously sold as a "toy"- not one of their serious airguns.
Anyone have a list of German airgun manufacturers prior to WWII? |

| Those two guns are about as similar as a 2240 and an IZH-46M! Other than age- I don't see alot of similarity. Of course, maybe that's just me... |

This is a Diana Lg2 which was made in many forms. I had this model but with Baklite grips in the early 1950s

| HS means something, but I can't remember. I see these guns passing the dutch board a lot, so I'll ask around a bit. |

A Dart-gun.
Shooting the gun is rubbish, but for the collector. They say that shooting it is fun, but it's probably not going to give good scores in the hands of anyone.
They say in that German review it's quite Spartan.
By the way:
Manufacturer: H. Schmidt, Ostheim (Rhön)
System: Laufspanner, Federdruck
Cal. 4,5 mm
Singleshot, for Diabolos or Darts
Sights: Not adjustable
Variant 1 (old Version)
Made of: action and barrel are steel, Handgrips are made of Bakelite.
Lentgh when not cocked: 208 mm
Length when cocked: 170 mm
Height: 104 mm
Width: 27 mm
Weight: 296 g
--------
Variant 2 (New Version)
Made of: Same materials as previous.
Length when not cocked: 196 mm
Length when cocked: 163 mm
Height: 102 mm
Width: 26 mm
Weight: 218 g
--------
There is no data on bullet speed, but I think that will probably be like 2 Mps anyway. |

Manufacturer: H. Schmidt, Ostheim (Rhoen)
System: Run tension adjuster, spring pressure
Cal. 4.5 mm einschuessig, for Diabolos or Darts
Sights: not adjustable
Variant 1 (older version)
Execution: System housing and run steel, griffstueck plastic
Length relieves: 208 mm
Length strained: 170 mm
Height: 104 mm Width: 27 mm
Weight: 296 g
Variant 2 (newer version)
Execution: Run steel, griffstueck and system housing plastic
Length relieves: 196 mm
Length strained: 163 mm
Height: 102 mm Width: 26 mm
Weight: 218 g
Function mode: The run outstanding in front from the run coat is pushed against the spring tension into the housing of the pistol. Brought into the final position, the run locks into its position. The rear end of the run becomes visible in the housing opening above the griffstueckes, where now the load opening locked by a cap is attainable. After unscrewing the screw-type cap, the projectile can be platziert into the pit. Subsequently, the load pit is again locked, whereby the projectile is continued to push by a tappet at the catch into the run. The pistol is now strained and loaded and with it firing ready. Operation of the departure solves the locking of the run, which snaps floated forward from the spring action. Air in the pressure chamber is compressed, penetrates into the intended openings behind the projectile into the run, and presses this out with pressure of the run.
This function mode, in connection with the spartan sights, permit only small precision and to offer altogether an only very reduced shooting fun. Altogether obtain the pistol a certain toy character, whose charm makes it rather interesting for the collecting tank, as for ambitionierte contactors. GUNIMO March 2003

With "run" they mean "barrel". The german word "lauf" also means "walk" or "run". Similar to this is the dutch word for barrel, which is "loop". "Loop" is the dutch word for "walk" too. "Loop" and "Lauf" are quite similar words, and are a nice example on how close these languages actually are.
Griffstueck(es) = handgrip(s). |

Now I know its kind of a toy that will shoot BB's Pellets or darts.
I'v been shooting it at a shipping box full of sty-foam peanuts. It will penetrate the box(one side) everytime but aiming it is a bit of a problem, when the barrel flys forward its sloppy and you never know where it might end up pointing.LOL Every shot has a different POI.I have some air gun darts I'll go out to the garage and get my old dart board. It could be fun in the house at about 10 feet..

I case anyone is interested besides me.

I used a different translation than 23ib0d0n and Broommaster but its basicly the same.
HS9A Manufacturer: H. Schmidt, Ostheim (Rhoen) System: R
(tip of barrel)Barrel tension adjuster , spring pressure Cal. 4.5 mm BB's, Pellets or Darts Visierung: not adjustable Variant 1 (older version) Execution: System housing and barrel steel, Gun stock plastic Length uncocked: 208 mm Length cocked: 170 mm Height: 104 mm Width: 27 mm Weight: 296 g Variant 2 (newer version) Execution: Barrel steel, Gun stock and system housing plastic Length uncocked: 196 mm Length cocked: 163 mm Height: 102 mm Width: 26 mm Weight: 218 g Function mode: The barrel outstanding in front from the barrel sleeve is pushed against the spring tension into the housing of the pistol. Brought into the final position, the barrel locks into its position. The rear end of the barrel becomes visible in the housing opening above the hand grip, where now the load opening locked by a cap is attainable. After unscrewing the screw-type cap, the projectile can be inserted into the bore. Subsequently, the load bore is again screwed closed, whereby the projectile is pushed by a pistont at sear into the barrel. The pistol is now cocked and loaded ,and is firing ready. Operation of the shot relieves the cocking of the gun, which snaps floated forward from the spring action. Air in the pressure chamber is compressed, penetrates into the intended openings behind the projectile into the barrel, and presses this out with air pressure in the barrel.
A fun little pistol for sure! I have been shooting it in the house at a cardboard box full of old paper. It is very hard to aim because of the way the barrel flys out the front of the gun when fired. It seems to change point of impact with every shot.LOL
Penetration is about 1/2 " thru the cardboard box into the paper.
I don't think it would kill a frog at 5 feet
Good Shooting!
Have a nice weekend
