I don't know what your laws are where you are,
but here in the USA it is illegal to shoot at power
lines and power poles. I know of a guy who
shot at a bird on a power line, missed, hit the copper
power wire and broke it. He got three months in
jail, two years probation, had to pay a $1500 fine,
$3500 for the line repair and now has a felony
on his record. Also, now he can no longer legally
own a moderator, firearm or have a concealed
weapons permit.

| I think the unspoken rule here is to not draw attention to illegal, or what are perceived to be, illegal activities. Especially when relating to airgun hunting. I think I have enough discretion not to stand in front of John Q Law and blast a pigeon off a powerline with a shotgun. |

The law was not present when it happened.
And it was an airgun.

i dont think so at all... you dont see people posting illegal pics do you? or illegal stories do you?
even if that is the case almost all of the hunters on this forum respect there game...so they dont post falure stories about wounding an animal and it escaping |

| as unfortunate as it may be, and as much as it shouldnt happen once in a while a hunt goes wrong, wether the target moves, you missjudged the wind or whatever happened. i dont see a problem in sharing these stories as a lesson learned so long as the tone is not of one bragging |

I agree leadman. What's wrong with giving an honest account of your hunt? Especially when you are looking for feedback on how to improve your success.
I was on another forum and I'd post a basic kill pic and then some people would start going off about how it was illegal (eventhough they didn't know what the law in my region was). And they would create all this fuss and draw attention to potential legal infractions that would've normally not even been noticed had they not made a big deal about it. And the irony is that they were saying to not post illegal things cuz they didn't want the attention drawn to it (all the while drawing attention to it).
Also, the last guy who posted in this forum told of a squirrel he shot that got away, i.e. wounded it.
BTW, I don't shoot at the birds on the powerlines anymore.
And the odds of a pellet hitting a thin, rounded, rubber encased wire so precisely that it would sever or ruin the wire is very low. But it is certainly possible. That is a good reason not to shoot at them though. |
