Hello

I have been attempting get my 1950's Crosman 147 rebuilt with little success. This is my first attempt at attacking an air rifle and I do love this gun.

I have disassembled it a few times, cleaned all surfaces and replaced all seals. I purchased a rebuilt pump cup rod and exhaust valve from JG airguns.

With the valve, sear, rod assembled and before I attach the barrel on top, when I pump the rifle, I feel air emanating from the breech hole. The barrel has not yet been attached.

Should the rifle hold air without the barrel attached. It seems maybe the sear or sear spring is not pushing the rod in strongly enough to retain the air in the valve but again I am a beginner.

I am gratified that there is air being pumped but the valve does not seem to retain the air. It appears to me that even with the barrel attached, the air will just flow through the little hole through the barrel with each pump.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I apologize if this subject is redundant. I am new to your web site.

Thank you

George

Definitely sounds like something not seating/sealing in the valve. Did you oil the valve parts before installing?

Thank you. I did oil everything but I will do it again and try to clean all of the pieces.

Thank you for the quick response. I'm a little baffled because the tube which holds the check valve body and exhaust valve body seems less slippery than ideal. The rifle has been sitting for over 60 years.

I will disassemble it again and try to get things cleaner and better oiled. I have an aluminum valve and the internal of the valve despite my efforts seems corroded.

Onward.

Thank you

George

It has been many years since I rebuilt one of those valves but I seem to remember a tiny quad ring inside the valve that would be easy to overlook.
