I don"t know about you guys but I am p....d off at paying over three bucks for a minute tube of Crosman silicone oil.
I was in Canadian Tire the other day and they sell a Mastercraft brand silicone in an aerosol can. Also I was in Wal Mart in the states the other day and in the automotive dept they sell cans of silicone spray for less than $1.50.
Can I use these products on my CO2 guns or do I have to pay Crosman their extortionate price for Pelligun oil.
Regards.

I use silicon mould release spray, which is used in the plastics indrustry. I punch a very small hole in the top of the aerosol can and let the gas out slowly, after a couple of hours you finish up with quite a lot of pure silicon. you can use sprays that are used for enhancing plastic bumpers, or any spray that contains only silicon apart from the propellent.

I find that one aerosol can is equal to about six bottles of Pelligun oil, I use it on all my Co2 guns and never had a seal go or a leak. Just make sure you bleed off the gas before you use it.

To punch a hole in the top of a aerosol can, fold a piece of cloth a few times then hold it over the top of the aerosol, then get a very small nail and knock it through the cloth and the top of the can and the propellent should bleed out slowly.

Al Thumb Up!

well Crossman sells two kind of oils, viz pellgun oil and silicone oil. They recommend Pellgunoil for CO2 guns but for pneumatics we should use pure silicone oil which is the Crossman silicone oil.

herez a comparision done by BB, a very good read.

Also Al, can we use that silicone oil from walmart, in pneumatics like my IZH-46M ? I was about to order crossman silicone oil from pyramydair.

Thanks in advance.

There has been some confusion on the Crosman products (I was confused by this as well awhile back).

Crosman Pellgunoil (part # 0241) is basically NOT silicone- it is, essentially, colored 30-weight engine oil with no detergents in it. It's the one used in the pump and Co2 guns.

Crosman Silicone Chamber oil (part # RMCOIL) is silicone- and is used in springers for the chamber/piston seal.

The idea is not to mix the two- they don't blend well. That being said- using silicone oils in pump guns and Co2 guns seems to work A-Ok. Using a non-silicone oil in a spring-gun chamber is bad news- heavy dieselling is the result.

With your Izzy being pneumatic It may require a bit more than just silicon oil to keep it running ok. Silicon is the right stuff to stop seals drying out on Co2 guns, but on a pneumatic it may require some metal to metal lubrication as well; and Pellgunoil contains a natural oil as well as silicon, so I wouldn’t just rely on silicon to do the job.

well but pellgunoil is combustible and so there are chances of it being petroleum based so this could be dangerous when compressed in the compression chamber right ?

Yes it could be a bit iffy putting oil in there.
Is there any metal to metal contact in the area you want to use silicon oil? If there is then you will have to use something else, if it's just for the compression chamber a drop of silicon oil every few hundred pellets would be all right.
Where do you apply the oil anyway?

I just need it for the compression chamber and there is no metal to metal contact. so i will use it in the compression chamber, for the seals and in the muzzle. I have the cleaning pellets so am thinking of soaking them in silicone oil and shoot couple of them to clean the barrel.

i still have to figure out how do i insert that one drop in the compression chamber of the IZH-46M. I don't want to stip it coz i am still a newbie and am afraid i might end up getting confused at the time of reassembly. Rolling Eyes

I've just had a look at the manual for the Izzy and it gives you instructions there on how to lube the cylinder.

8.6 If excessive force is applied on the pumping lever, you should
lubricate the cup as indicated below:
– swing the pumping lever to the position where the cup becomes
accessible through the slot cut in the cylinder;
– lubricate the cup through the cylinder slot;
– swing the pumping lever to its initial position, turn the breech
block to the initial position and pull the trigger (i.e. produce a dry shot).
Repeat this operation until the lubricant spreads around the cylinder
inner surface.
Note – When the pistol is loaded, swing the pumping lever
forward, if it is absolutely necessary.
8.7 Clean and lubricate the barrel just after shooting. The remaining
parts should be lubricated when necessary.
8.8 Wipe the pistol parts with a clean cloth and use any gun
lubricant to lubricate the pistol.

You can use silicon for this, the cup refered to is the piston seal.

You can download a manual here:

A good place to get PURE silicone oil is the local hobby shop that caters to RC race cars. They sell silicon shock oil in different viscosities.

Hi clloydhi, welcome to airgunhome, I hope you will find the site intresting.

Good idea about silicon for shocks, I never though of that and I have a rc car. Thumb Up!
