Since my PS is laid up, what about the stock?

I read that they come unsealed. So while waiting for a piston seal what stock sealing route is good and easy to do?

It is unsealed- i.e. only stained?

If you really want to seal it, a thin varnish should do it, but then you will change the finish and appearance of the stock somewhat.
