You are going to have a bit of expense if trying to use a pellet pistol powerful enough to take out raccoons or opossum humanely, especially if using non-lead (i.e. lighter weight) pellets.
If a pistol is a "must" you are going to be looking at .22 caliber PCP pistols (i.e. like a Benjamin Marauder pistol), and then need a fill method (tank or pump), and non-lead pellets would still not be the best idea. |

Since the small animal is in a trap, and if nobody is looking, take several shots at it with any air pistol in the 450+fps range. If that doesn't kill it, use a knife, or use the knife/spike in the first place. Another alternative is a slingshot with steel balls. |

I use a .22 cal Crossman 2240 pistol for dispatching pigeon's with great success after being brought down with a rifle.
Or you could use a "Priest" Club.
