You can cock it and roam around all day with no problem, of cause the better the quality of rifle then the longer it can remain cocked with very little deteriation in performance. If there is any loss of performance it should recover pretty well over night

Brake the barrel fully just the same as cocking it, then Still holding the barrel pull the trigger and slowly close the breach, now it will be un-cocked but don't forget there will still be a pellet in the barrel.

| If it's one of the newer gas spring models, you can leave it cocked forever and not hurt it. That's specifically why I bought my dad one for last Christmas. |

| Sorry dude, I know nothing about Gamo. I haven't owned one since the wild pig ad campaign that showed a breathtaking amount of irresponsibility. |

Many guns now have "anti-beartrap" mechanisms that block the trigger when the barrel is open. My Slavia does not, and this procedure works well. It won't work on all guns, unless the anti-beartrap mechanism has been removed. My own choice would be to leave any safety device intact (on principle) and simply discharge the gun. |

I usually don't have a problem leaving my springers cocked too long, its kind of like trying to ignore an itch |

| You cant uncock your rifle. you will have to shoot the pellet out. Gamo breakbarrels have an anti-beartrap mechanism |

| you will destroy a piston driven gun in short order by dry firing it, especially one with the power of the hunter extreme. dry firing is a HUGE no no! also firing light alloy pellets (if it is a 177 caliber) does the same thing.when the piston has little or no resistance read, pellet in the breech) to create a cushion of air, the piston slams into the front of the compression chamber violently. this creates a lot of undue stress on the powerplant, and fries the piston seal to boot |
