Got the new Chrony out today to test it and some guns. So I pull out the two 1077's I've got.
What did they shoot?
The "totally stock" unit shot 220 to 400fps over 30 shots (new 12g caplet) with the 400-range lasting for about the first 8 shots, and diminishing consistently down to 220 at the later shots as the Co2 started running low. I gave up at that point.
The "modified" 1077- smoothed and lightened trigger, tighter hammer spring, bored out valve nose- and by comparison when shooting against the "stock" 1077 appearing to be quite a bit more powerful- numbers were 250 to 450fps over 30 shots.
Talk about misleading advertisement and poorly constructed guns! These are simply 'toys' and of ZERO use for anything else. What a waste of money these were. Teach me to buy a gun and a "modifiable spare" based on a feature (the 12-shot dual action setup). "Maximum velocity of 625fps" indeed.

Well, I was out earlier today with the Chrony again to verify a "from factory" 1077- the one I tested previously.
I was being overly optimistic that the last time I ran the test, cooler weather (about 60* F) might be part of the problem.
So, today- 70* F, 7.9gr Crosman pointed ("hunting") pellets- two 5-shot strings, best velocity was 395.2fps on a brand-new 12g caplet- slowest shot of the first dozen was 334.9fps.
Maybe I'll go cry now... |

When I first bought a Chrony I tested it on all my guns and must have shot 5000 pellets through it, kept records of temperature shot number ect
then started to get paranoid about it, so I threw the chrony away and I am a lot happier man now.
An easy test for me is if it shoots through a bean can it's OK

Bean can is a good idea.
Needless to say- the as-delivered 1077 at under 400 fps won't even come close to doing that at 12m/35ft.
In fact, even a rifle shooting 100fps more makes for a completely different shooting experience.
At under 400fps I feel like I'm playing with an airsoft gun! |

Strange these 1077's!!
Mine could shoot through the ribbed part of a bean can and out the other side, The day I got it!!!
And now Ive tuned it, The pellets go straight through without even denting it!!!
Maybe bean cans are made out of a different material or thickness over in the UK!!

I doubt there's any real difference in the bean cans- but obviously Crosman means it when they say "MAXIMUM velocity of xxx." They don't say "minimum velocity of xxx" and at under 400fps it's tough for a .177 pellet to get its way through a can at 12m/35ft (this is just a convenient shooting distance for me). Maybe if I fastened the can down to a stand or used a backstop, it would have a better chance of being penetrated- they tend to move around a bit when hit. |

Hi AirGunEric
Don't you think 12M is a bit close for shooting??
At that distance don't you keep getting hit by ricochets??
Or do you just have a small back yard??
Any movement of the can makes it less likely for the pellet to penetrate!
And about fastening the can down!, There's an easy way of doing this!! Put a brick on it!!!
I suppose the effect is kinda like being punched in the face!
If you tense your neck muscles, Its gonna hurt a lot more than moving your head away from the punch just as it hits you!!
This way its like you almost dodged the punch completely!!
But there is a downside to this! As if you get the timing wrong you can end up with a broken neck!! Ouch!!!
