Finally got the Beeman P-17 an hour ago.
Read the simple instruction and it won't work!
Booooohooooo. Disappointed.
It's a nice feeling, looking, pistol I got on sale at Pyramyd for $29 bucks & change.
I opened to cocking lever, which as you know is the top of the pistol.
It requires 28 pounds of down cocking force so I was ready for some resistance lowering the cocking piece but in the final downstrok, about the last 1.5" it let all the air out, like instantly & my palm slid down of the fiber optic sight ripping it open a bit.
Pissed me off.
I made several much more careful attempts to pump air into it with
the same results. Air instantly rushes out of something somewhere.
At least that's what I think it's doing.
Anyone got suggestions on a fix besides returning it?
I HATE sending stuff back especially when I never got a shot off.
I tried seating a pel prior to lowering the cocking piece but that ain't the problem.
What is causing it not to cock?
Something I can do to correct it?
Mad Mad

Piston o ring cut at air intake hole or they never got the air valve nut tight. Somebody else might have more ideas but there is a nut inside that holds the air valve and if its not snug it will almost make full pressure n then hiss n close easy.try a small half a cocking stroke n see if it pumps air, close n pull trigger.won't hurt it

Thanks but that didn't do anything.
It doesn't hiss are at all. When closing it come withing about 1.5" of close then just instantly snaps down with no hiss, just slams down hard.
Hurts like hell because pushing down hard, the sudden release, slamming down, cause hand to slip.
Don't know.
Guess I'll cal P.A. b!tch that it took a week to ship under 60 miles and it won't work.

A loose valve stem nut would allow it to charge and then not fully dump the charge. A torn piston seal would hiss and leak all through the stroke. If it happens at the same place in the cocking stroke it sounds like an imperfection or widening in the cylinder. Time to talk to PA.

Agreed. It's a send back. Everyone gets a lemon once in a while.

It took me three tries to get one that worked. The first one leaked, second had trigger issues, third one was a keeper.

If it helps .... I was one order and good. No doubt you were unlucky to get a lemon. It really is a good shooter, don't give up on it. PA will make it right for certain ... they're great like that.

Yes y'all get a good 1 and they are a keeper.if I was to buy a new 1 again I'd pull it down n check the air intake porthole, remove the barrel and polish the breech end, also its easier to clean the barrel while apart, lube the oring .I beveled the front edge of the piston and put it back together n shoot the heck out of it
