I've been reading up on gangs on Wikipedia and about the problems they cause. My solution is two things:

Just kill them. Anyone who belongs to a gang should be hung from a street post. This also inclunds the Wannabes.

Fix the problems that couses gangs to form in the first place. Or least take measures to prevent at-risk youths
from joining them.

BTW I was mugged last Satiday night.

A few repeat offenders or core criminals in gangs are responsible for most crimes...most murders...and they mostly occur in select "bad" areas, according to FBI crime statistics.

That being said, there will always be real gangs as long as there is profit and protection in it. There always has been, worldwide. I don't like the culture though where wannabees think it's cool.

Sorry you got mugged. Too bad you didn't or couldn't shoot them at the time. My personal policy, is that if it is all possible, is to kill or at least "tag" as many as I can with whatever I have at hand. Even if I have to sacrifice my life to do it. By "tag" I mean injuring to the point that they have to show up at the ER and explain it, and hopefully get busted. If a "gun" is pointed at me, I will do my best to make society a little safer in this way.

Interesting. I did not type "gun" I typed w-e-a-p-o-n, without the hyphens, and the post substituted the word gun, and it will not change. Honest truth. In fact it substituted it here, too.

I thing it has a lot to do with societal values. Much of the time the youth is looking for love (not necessarily s*x) or peer acceptance and to a degree, guidance. Parents find it economically necessary to work longer hours therefore spend less time nurturing the family and it's often the case where the father is absent from their lives. Many kids essentially raise themselves. The lacking attention, love, devotion and guidance is found in adverse places.

I am not suggesting some type of psychological puffery or professional intervention is any kind of solution. That would be like calling a tissue the cure for a cold. Governmental intervention can contain it to some degree but like the tissue, it can not ever be a cure. It will either grow worse or get better depending how we, the individual deal with raising our youth and accept the responsibility of bringing people into this world.

Do the schools use psychological behavior films on the school kids these days? You know the kind that points out bad habits and how they effect others? During my grade school days, we had to sit through these films to see how not to behave. Most kids didn't want to be seen as the bad types shown in them so school was a pleasant place. But there were still a few kids who wanted to be known as the bad kids, but just a few.

So we could do a lot of good by fixing the economiy and encourging fathers to be involved in their kids lives?

Too many gangs in the world to do anything about. I have family in a biker gang, and had grandfathers that were bootleggers and mafiosos. Street gangs of misaligned youth are particularly violent and wanton. Very sorry you could not defend yourself and earn an article in the NRAs Armed Citizen page

Unfortunely IL doesn't do CC. They jumped me from behind and hit my head with a rock or something.

You could have died. Write a letter to Mr. Obama and thank him for his beautifully structured state. A rock? The criminal probably had a pistol, and thusly pistolwhipped you.

The board is set up to do that- no need to have someone typing "w-e-a-p-o-n" (without the hyphens) in Google and coming up with "airguns" on the list- no need to draw heat where it isn't needed.

As for gangs- corral them into a ghetto, and let them have their way- they'll eventually kill off most of each other- then the last remaining few can be eliminated by someone else.

Too bad whm1974 got mugged- couldn't have been a very good experience.
