I wanted a fix barrel side lever to try out so I bought the QB88 after reading reviews on how accurate they can be. Once I received it, it was covered in sticky crap that felt awful on the hands, so an exterior clean up was in order.

The stock finish was butt ugly, super dark along with a thick coating of lacquer, a real eye sore. I should have taken a before picture but didn't before stripping her and redoing it, came out better but not the best. The wood seemed bone dry to me so I covered it up inside and out with tung oil

now this rifle gives me the creep when it comes to loading a pellet though I hold the lever with my hand or block it somehow in case it lets go, don't want to lose a finger now.

Took her apart and polish and lubed it which was a big improvement but the gun is still weak. One thing I hate about the anti-beartrap is the spring they use, got to be the weakest part of the gun IMO. I added a short spring,(will take a picture to show) to beef it up and feel more confident about it working now as the original easily becomes unsprung.

Bought the shooters kit from D&L which includes a longer/stronger spring.

I haven't installed it yet as my compressor need modifying but I was told this spring will wake it up some. Trigger on this rifle is the same as what's on the Phantom/Gamo rifles, had one self discharge from trying to adjust to light of a pull then it wouldn't catch after that, so a readjustment was made.

Rifle is pretty accurate with iron sights it seems but a scope could be a problem to mount if it's to long/big. A scope kinds of gets in the way of the loading port.

More to follow...

Let us know how you make out with it. Unfortunately, your low-quality wood and sticky goo issues are typical for Chinese airguns.

What came in that IB "Shooters Choice" kit, exactly- and how much did it cost? I'm curious more than anything.

Well Eric...the only good thing in this kit is the spring and a new piston seal and a .177 cleanining brass rod. The chinese oil I'll use on my lawnmower and the other pieces I don't have a clue what they are for.

Oh yeah, only about $12 from D&L.

Well, seems like it's going the right way. Wink

I must say I don't really like the cheek-piece. It's a bit big or something. Neutral

BTW, Mar, how's the plastic level?

Hi Mar
I got one of them kits for my B4 exactly the same as yours, but I think the cone seals are for .22, as for the oil I was going to chuck it out, but if as Andy says it's good stuff I'll keep it. BTW it was £12.00 over here.

Al

2RCHA you are correct about the seals, I just replaced it. Is that oil chamber oil?

Here's a picture as promised of the additional spring added to the anti-beartrap.

Broomaster it's not the nicest stock and yeah that cheek-piece could use some reworking if one wanted to take the time to do it.
I don't know what plastic level you are talking about.

Here's the trigger.

Mar, is the piston seal a leather one, or a synth,. one?, if it's leather yes, you surely can use it in the chamber, and it's actually recommended that you add about 2-3 drop's every 500-1000 rnds, it keeps the leather soft, and pliable,,the problems start when you let the seal get dried out, but that's easily solved as well, just put in about 10-12 drops of oil, and let it sit on it's butt for a day or two(but that's only for a dry seal), I'll give you a link to a guy who's sort of a guru in the chinese a/g world, alot of what this guy does would be highly contested on the CAF, but then again alot of the guys on the CAF don't know jack shyte about chinese a/g's Wink

Pulled it out tonight just to shoot it. Still the original spring in there and shoots like a dream. Stacked up a couple of tuna cans and an empty co-2 cartridge and shot them off one by one. Best fun I've had in a awhile shooting.

I love the sound of cocking this rifle and it's clickeyty sound.
