I was reading a post on this Forum and could not find it again to make a comment.

There is not any real STANDARD when it comes to dovetails... However, MOST are identified by the 3/8" or 11mm moniker, THEY ARE NOT THE SAME!!!!

The only published STANDARD that I know of is US MIL-STD 1913 which is the standard for the Picatinny mounting system that is based on the original Weaver® design...

The most popular and common dovetail is 3/8" measured at the throat. These dovetails are cut at a 45° angle.

More popular in Europe is the 11mm(7/16") dovetail. It is also measured at the throat but normally 11mm dovetails are cut at a 60° angle..

Many/Most TipOff (dovetail) rings have a mounting 'foot' that is reversible to facilitate proper mounting on either 3/8" or 11mm dovetails.

Please add your information to the correct post:

Do you have anything to support the actual existence of the 11mm-7/16" dovetail?

This lack of a "standard" is a problem, and as people have noted first-hand, rail dimensions are all over the place. Maybe there is an 11mm rail- but the only "evidence" we seem to see is vendors labeling/mis-labeling any dovetail any way they seem to feel they should depending on the day of the week.
