Basher and shawnhu, I have since received (and shot a bit) a D48. It is indeed much more accurate out of the box, but, I really like the X20 for it's ease of use. The "problem" that I started with, might not be a real problem, just a bit slow. With the seal replaced, the spring might be at fault though it looked fine during tune-up. On the accuracy point, the first 5 pellets I shot were all Crosman (7.5 gr. WC's thru 10.5 gr. UM's) and none were better than about 1.5" at 15 yds from a rest. Then, I shot some 8.2 gr. JSB Stratons and the first 25 could have been covered by a penny (5 - 5 shot groups, no flyers, superimposed). I have not been able to match this feat (a feat for me) since, but the Stratons are still far better than any of the Crosmans? Oddly, my D48 seems to like the UM's better than most other pellets, including some RWS's, JSB's, and H&N's - all in the 8.2 gr.area. Both guns seem to like RWS Super Mags (9.3 gr.) pretty well.

Every rifle can prefer a different pellet- even two rifles of the same model built in the same factory on the same day may prefer different pellets- there is no "absolute" anything in this respect- experimentation is required.
