I have had a Benjamin/Sheridan model 397 air rifle for quite some time now and I like it very much but I have always wanted to mount a good low power scope on it, 1.5 or 2.5 power or a Red Dot but all of the scope mounts that I have seen use clamps on the brass barrel which can squeeze it and deform the barrel and pellet some and effect accuracy. Besides that, being clamped on, it can easily move if it is hit by something when handling.

So I mentioned this on one of the forums and a fellow there asked if I had ever heard of the Ballistic Enterprises BE-1 Integrabase scope mount for the Benjamin/Sheridan 392, 397 and Blue Streak line of pump air rifles and of course I had not so I did a Google search and checked them out.
I ordered one and when it came I took a few minutes and installed it.

Now to install it you must remove the rear sight from the barrel to make room to slide the mount onto the receiver from the front. To do that, take a small block of wood or similar material and with a small hammer drive it forward and off of the mounting wedges. Next you have to remove the little side plate on the left side of the receiver behind the breach by removing the two little screws. Now you can slide the mount onto the receiver from the front and lock it in place with the two little set screws that are provided then put the side plate back on and mount your sight.

If you still want to use your rear sight blade (you can see it over the new mount) you can put it back on by lining up the two little wedges and set the sight over them, then with a block of wood and hammer drive it down onto the wedges with a quick smack. Be aware that the bell of a long scope might interfere with the sight and it's easier to pump without it, So the choice is yours.

I found it was a little harder to load pellets depending on your sight and rings but it was doable, and it is harder to cock with my sight position but again, doable. A compact reflex sight would work great here. By the way, this mount will accept 3/8" clamp type rings as well as Picatinny and Weaver style rings.

I sighted it in and fired three shots at about 25 yds. using a Red Dot scope that I had and all three shots were touching. Now that's what I'm talking about!
