I see that Airgun Hobbyist Magazine as folded which is a surprise considering it was the only airgun magazine published in the States.
I would have thought that with the USA being one of the biggest users of airguns in the world, it would be able to support at least one airgun magazine, over here in the UK we do have three monthly air gun magazines on the go.
Evidently the support just dwindled away, I guess they needed a large injection of cash to update the magazine and publish in colour which may have saved it.
R.I.P.

Bad economy !!! I don't think airguns are as big of a deal over here as I would like to see them be.
The Airsoft is much bigger than airguns. I was really surprise to learn that too. |

There certainly is plenty of monthly reading material for airgun enthusiasts here in the UK,which I really appreciate. |

I picked it up on one of the airgun sites, I think it was attributed to Dave the Administrator of the GTA site, but it was reported on other sites as well.
If this is not true then that is good news and I’m glad it’s still going.

I didn't see the original story it was repeated on another forum. But I have managed to track down the original GTA article.
It doesn’t take much for a false story to run and run and run on the internet forever.

The internet is a wonderful place for fiction to start.
What is really bothering me lately is this "11mm dovetail" BS- a couple US vendors who don't know how to convert Standard/Imperial to Metric started calling 3/8" dovetail rails "11mm" (3/8" is actually 9.51mm) and now far too many people are walking around asking "do I need an 11mm dovetail mount, or 3/8?". |

I think the confusion comes from the way the rail is measured the throat is 3/8” and the top width is 7/16, but since the metric system has come in and lots of imports from metric using countries, it’s been bastardised to 9.5mm to 11mm, and on top of that the dealers don’t know which to use, the throat or top width so they say it fits 9.5 to 11mm rails, which gives the impression that there is a variety of rail sizes.

I see what you're saying Al- the problem is most vendors are not even saying "9.5 to 11mm"- they are simply labeling them as "11mm"- so someone sees 3/8" dovetail, then 11mm dovetail, then 20mm (Weaver/Picatinny)- sometimes without even the 'dovetail' or 'Weaver' mentioned, and all bets are off. The last month I have been having this question asked of me more and more (approximately 6 times in 3 weeks, whereas before that I think it was 3 times in 6 months)- so it's obviously causing increased amounts of confusion. I actually wrote an email to the Sales Manager at PyramydAir earlier pointing this out and asking if they might be nice enough to stop publishing this sort of incorrect rubbish... |

Just for fun, I measured some of the guns I had at hand. (These are all "top width.")
CZ Slavia 631 - 13.16mm
Crosman G1 - 11.51mm
Mendoza (Crosman) RM577 - 10.59mm
Industry B3 - 11.69mm
Crosman Titan - 12.37mm
Crosman 66 - 13.14mm
Avanti 853 - 12.31mm
Marksman 2004 - 11.91mm
Gaylord in the Pyramydair blog says he wasn't able to scope his Slavia until the advent of some fancy new mount, because the nominal 11mm dovetail actually measured 14mm.
http://airgun-academy.pyramydair.com/blog/tag/slavia-631/
My Slavia has had 3/8" rings from Cabela's for a decade. Not only that, but the scope block is made from a Walmart clearance ring - also 3/8." I didn't have anyone to tell me that they wouldn't fit, so I went ahead and put them on. Sure, if I zero at 25 yards I might be off by a millimeter or two at 50 yards, but I can't shoot well enough to tell.
I can see how people could get confused - maybe I was better off not knowing anything back then.

Dang you! I was hoping no-one was going to bring that up- the Slavia-rifle rail is what started this whole "European" dovetail idea way back when, and I got sucked up into it somewhat as well- started convincing myself there must be other European guns with "11mm" dovetails and 'finding' them where they didn't exist (i.e. as per Slavia's top width measurements).
Somewhere along the way, I figured out it was all BS- perhaps this is why I find it so damn distasteful- I was also bullsh!tted, and apparently helping to further the BS on this for far too long. |
