Shouldn't have come up as a link as it had a period and a quotation mark around it. Anyways, space added so it should work now.
Someone had noted the actual video is online somewhere- any ideas where? |

| All I could find was an interview with Poteat at the Crosman booth at SHOT 2012 (the Crosman site links to the same stuff). I wouldn't be surprised if something appears after it airs this week. I've got the DVR set. |

O.K., so I watched the episode. Using a .25 Marauder, Poteat kills the hog with a head shot (between the eyes). The hog drops dead on the spot. One frame has the dead hog, the gun, and Poteat's boots. The hog appears to have the same linear dimensions as my 66 pound dog, only leaner - so let's say 50-60 pounds. There is no visible evidence that the hog was tethered.
Now, I don't know how many takes were missed, or were sloppy kills. From this one instance I would have to judge that it's believable and ethical.
Which brings to mind a question - you don't suppose that Crosman is subtly taking a dig at Gamo's infamous video, in effect saying "use Crosman and do it right"?
Judge for yourself - here's the episode:

It's entirely likely that Crosman is taking a dig at, or simply copying Gamo. If we look at the Crosman lineup the last few years, they have been trying to line themselves up as competitors to Gamo, and much less so to Daisy. I have no idea what the market share is for each company, but obviously Crosman has taken the idea that Gamo is their main competition at this point and seems to be trying to out-market/out-perform them.
The "Marlin" seems to be a direct big-box competition model for the Daisy Red Ryder, and all the 'NP' rifles with their shrouded barrels came out after the Gamo models with the same features.
Gamo in the US has been all about the "marketing" the last few years, and Crosman was not doing much marketing at all until about 2 years ago. Somewhere in the middle, PyramydAir starting doing alot more promotion of airguns in general as well.
All that being said, Gamo only recently got into PCP's with their Dynamax models, and they have both effectively dumped Co2 rifles excluding the 1077 from Crosman.
So perhaps this is a more "pre-emptive" marketing to circumvent Gamo selling the Dynamax in large numbers.
Now- looking at the video- I notice two things, 1) the hog was not viewed for more than a couple seconds immediately after the shot, perhaps avoiding showing any nerve twitching action and 2) why didn't the factory cover come off the bolt handle before using the rifle? Heck, why is there even a factory bolt handle cover on the rifle, period? Strikes me as nothing more than a moisture trap. |
