| I have a Beeman R8 that I purchased in 1995 or 96 really can't remember exactly, but I used it primarily to rid myself of a particular Wood Pecker infestation at that time. It was absolutely wonderful and very accurate to shoot. I since moved away from that home many years ago to another and in the process...just stored this rifle in a closet. I knew it was there, but I just never took it out and used it much after that. Now I have a 9 year old Son, I want him to be introduced to this rifle so he can enjoy it as much as I did (and will again). Heres my question...I didn't take care of it for almost 15 years, I want to completely dissemble it, clean it and lube it. I know how to do this, but never have DONE it. Do I need a spring compressor for this project, or can I retain the cap in my hand as I am unscrewing it? I know I have to retain pressure on the end cap and I'm no weakling, so is this feasible since this is not a "magnum" powered rifle? |

To remove the end cap, you will at least need a vice to hold the receiver in place. Then you can unscrew the end cap using body pressure.
The removal of the R-8 end cap is similar to other HW air rifles. This video shows a guy removing an HW77 end cap. I think the spring on his rifle must have been broken, that's why the end cap didn't pop out with any force. You should keep pressure on it when removing.

The spring in that video isn't broken. it's a UK gun and under their laws they are only allowed airguns that produce less than 12 pounds of energy. |
