Hence the "sweet spot" LDH. Once the head, vital organs or spinal cord(anywhere above the heart & lungs) on an animal is hit with sufficient power, it can be considered a humane kill. In the case of a spinal shot, the animal may kick a bit, but once the shot is placed between the heart & head on the spine, the heart and lungs have no choice but to stop.
As to using a shotgun, tactical or otherwise, on small game & fowl I personally wouldn't. Too much work to get all the slugs out before you can eat it, & moreover, way too much overkill Laughing

3" Turkey Load at 60 yards or less I can headshot a turkey with that gun with zero shot entering the bird meat.

At closer ranges I have taken the head completely off

Try nosler .22 pellets or use a shotgun with #4 or #6 copper plated lead shot.

I have taken turkeys with a pellet gun and it is my favorite method. I think it is the most humane because it is either a clean miss or clean hit. Even a .177 shooting in the low 700's will work. Doesn't take much to get through those skulls.

I have a Beeman Kodiak 25 caliber .Do you think this would not penetrate through the folded wings on a side shot into the vitals ? Head shot ,neck and center back or the best , I agree but was wondering if the folded wings would stop this round from this gun under 30 yards ? Seems it zip through ?

I'd have to advise against side shots on turkey. There's too much hard and dense material to penetrate on a lateral shot. Like the wing feathers, then wing bone, then ribs, then skin & flesh. There's no guarantee the pellet would have enough energy left to reach the vitals from that range.

I agree a back shot , neck head is best . I was wondering if anyone had tried the lateral shot and succeeded . Some one told me once they tried it a few times with a hunter extreme 22 caliber and the turkey jumped up and came down and went about its way as if nothing happened and he said this happened a few times but seeing my 25 shoot through the side of steel drum at that range it was hard to believe the feathers etc would offer that much of a bullet proof vest !

Have to report a successful Turkey Hunt . I saw some in a large field heading towards the forest . I took a line on a trail in the forest to try and intercept them. I did, a tad sooner than I expected , saw a hen first coming up the hill to my left and froze . Then a very large Tom raised and stretched out his neck to look. he was in front of her but was low, feeding in the brush so I did not see him . He called out . I still froze. When his head moved behind some brush I shouldered my Beeman Kodiak Magnum 25 caliber . Then I waited until his head was framed in a small opening and I fired . At once he fell and rolled down the hill trying to regain his feet but not able to and he hit the trunk of a large tree and stopped . I was running now to get to him but when I arrived he was breathing his last. Head shot right behind the eye with open iron sights . I paced it off later at 35 yards . I Used a Gamo PBA Platinum pellet which shoots the best in my gun . It sure worked great on this large Tom . I would say he was in the 20 pound plus range .
