I had my old Sheridan given a Mac-1 "Steroid" job to make it more powerful.
But it has a storage rule where you have to keep the bolt cocked and 3 pumps of air in it.
I've forgotten to do this a couple times in past 15 years and had to return it to Mac-1. ...If left uncocked/unaired for too long it will then no longer hold any air when pumped.
I hate bothering them with this.
Anyone know if I can somehow revive it myself?
I'm handy and if it's just a seal that needs reseating and is easy to access, well, why mail the poor action back'n'forth across the land?
I know that Mac-1 installs their own seals. I suppose there's a safety concern. I dunno if I could get them to just mail me a seal to do the revival myself. Since I screw up so often with this storage method I'm hoping that I could somehow just learn how to revive it myself. ? |

I'm guessing here based on experience
They are probably using ultra light springs on the poppet in the valve. The pressure of the hammer resting on the stem lifts the valve off the seat and the seal deforms.
If you want the problem to disappear. pull the valve and replace the poppet seal and possibly put a slightly stiffer but still less than stock spring in |

Keep pumping at it, sometimes you can get the seal to seal, then pump up to max and let it sit for a while to hopefully reseal...............
Last resort....a sharp quick blast with compressed air up the air hole may get to to seal better, then try to pump it...
if all fails you will have to dismantle it.... |

Thanks, everyone! For some reason our old gun came back to life. Balky, though, at first. I then realized I hadn't applied the Secret Sauce lately and pumped it up hard a few times in hopes of getting a fresh seal. It seemed to work!
I now can't pump it to 14, though. 10 was darn hard. My son did 12. Well, I suppose we better use it more and get it back into smooth action...
