Hi all, I spent the better part of a day reading posts in here about crossman rifles. So if you dont mind I'll jump right in and ask my question.

I have a Storm xt c1k773932, I have down loaded the parts manual from crossman, so before I take this apart I would like to ask a Question?

The gun sat for about 6month's not cocked when I went to push down on the barrel I noticed that it would not stay locked at the bottom of it's action (sure I'm not using all the right terms). the mechanism for compressing the spring looks very simple but I did not see it move, so do you all think I need a new spring? The gun is very clean and has no obstructions in it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.......Thanks Sparks

So the barrel takes force to push (after unlatching) like it's trying to compress that big spring. but then spring doesn't catch and stay?
Be careful not to let loose of that barrel under spring pressure, by the way because it will slam shut hard and fast. If you're sure you are getting that last bit of cocking force that should engage the piston to the sear and keep it cocked, then there is likely a problem with the trigger and sear assembly.
I'm not familiar with the Storm, but you'll probably need a spring compressor to take it apart safely. The springs are under considerable tension even when uncocked.

Is there resistance when you try to cock it? (Does it feel like you're pushing on a spring.) Any grinding or scraping noises? Any rattles when it's uncocked? Have you moved the trigger adjustment screw?

You're only three screws away from looking inside - two on each side at the front, and one behind the trigger. (Nothing nasty is going to jump out at you - the spring compressor is for when you disassemble the innards.) Once the mechanism is free of the stock you can inspect the cocking linkage and the spring.

Thanks for the reply's I was afraid that thing was under a lot of pressure.

Before I disassemble it was quite a bit harder to push down more than i remember. After having it a part I can push it down a lot easier, but I do not see the spring getting engaged and the barrel does stay in the down position.

Helped a friend take a garage door down once that about killed us, I would rather play with 480v hot than open a bomb lol. Any thoughts would be great.

It ain't the 480 that scares me, either, it's that 277 backfeed from some remote ballast that you forgot about that scares me. Laughing

It sounds like the cocking shoe is not hooked into the piston so it isn't pushing the piston and spring back. Got any close-up pictures of the bottom of the action out of the stock?
