Hi everyone

Does anyone know of a good software for designing a custom stock. I have been using google sketchup but i am struggle to design the thumb slot very well as there are so many different contours lines. Here's a few pictures of what i have done so far but i'm not happy with it.

Cheers
Luke

I would use Pro Engineer. However it does take time to learn... dimensions kinda get confusing at first. In that sense google sketchup is def easier to use... but then again Pro E has more potential once youve mastered it.

Youre best bet is to make a decent sketch using a software, and then manually touching it up afterwards(like rounding edges around thumb hole).

Is PE available for free, or by usage fee?

My favorite that I have used is Autodesk Inventor, and SolidWorks in second place, but unless you have access to a license, forget it. Thousands of dollars to purchase.

Cheers,
Rob

It is a commercial product- so not free.

rifle stocks may be tough to make due to curvature and such, but i do plan on making more simple things such as triggers and shrouds. easy breezy, im just a bit lazy lol

Yeah Sketchup is your best bet, check out Youtube vids on how to do the curves and such. I use it to just get me a rough idea and if it gets too difficult the ole fashion pen and paper!!

I use Inventor Pro for all my work, and stocks I find the most difficult bits to do, especially if you are copying and original.

You would probably find a good sketch program easier for what you want, or use something like Photoshop to create one.
