I have a deer that comes into the backyard (one of the many deer) she comes up alone, and has a badly broken front leg. Hobbling, trying to eat. Makes me sad. I am against poaching in general, but since our animal control is a bumbling operation that rarely shows up on time, and then screws up the whole works, I was thinking about a carefuly placed crossbow bolt to end her misery.
What would you do?

cheers,
Rob

I'd say as long as you cleanly end the misery, and don't just waste all that tasty meat, it's honorable. At least get the tenderloins lol

Yes. Not much chance of that. Neighbors would send a gift basket for every deer I got.

Cheers,
Rob

Check out the penalties so you can assess if the risk is worth it. If it were WI or MN I wouldn't do it.

I'll just let it go. Sad to see though, but I don't want to be punished by the state for trying to do a kindness.

Maybe instead of animal control you should contact the DNR. (515) 281-5918

Thanks. I'll try that. Haven't seen the deer in a while, but my wife did a few days ago.

I would go that route. Here the MNR will almost always ask the landowner/reporting party if they want the venison if they have to do a humane kill.

I'll give 'em a call if I see that deer again.
Thanks, guys.

In Pennsylvania the Game Circu.. Commission usually does everything they can to take the deer off of you if you report it. They'd say they were testing it for CWD if it was a newborn sparkling fawn.

They also say we don't have mountain lion, and have completely ruined our white tail population by making deer season 2 weeks of buck AND doe.

Like we said before, I'd try not to get caught. Period. Wink
