Hey all,
I finished this project over a year ago and never got around to sharing it... so here goes.
I've had my 1077 rifle for well over 12 years at this point. It was always fun to shoot, but constantly replacing the 12gram CO2's was a pain. The 88gram tanks are expensive and it seemed to ruin the feel of the gun with the tanks sitting on the outside of the stock.
I stumbled onto this forum and found a few threads about people bulk-filling their rifles. While it certainly extended the shooting time, I really didn't like the idea of having a coiled hose running to a paintball tank. I saw a few threads from muzzle mack on how he was bulk-filling his 1077, so I ventured to find a similar method.
I figured, why not try to incorporate the 2.5oz refillable cylinders found on some of the Daisy competition air rifles. The cylinder size looked close, so I ordered one and gave it a shot.
After disassebling the rifle, I removed the originaly CO2 canister tube, and the brass piercing/manifold assembly. After taking some measurments, I machined a new brass peice, with all the appropriate depths and o-ring sealing surfaces, added a paintball tank adapter and finally drilled and tapped that adapter for a pressure gauge. Some of the stock and small parts were modified to fit the larger tank, but nothing major. Below is the final result.
The rifle is extremely well balanced and does not take away from the feel of the rifle at all. The cyclinder cost me $1 to fill at my local paintbal shop (they always look at me funny when I bring in this tiny tank). It doesn't hold as much air as the 88gram tanks (about 0.6oz less), but it definately extends shooting time and feels better. Take a look and let me know what you guys think. This rifle will mostly likely be for sale within the week. |

| At first glance that looks a lot like a 12 gauge! Awesome that it has a pressure gauge too. I'll never have one of those but I gotta say that is kinda cool |

Very kool, I am hoping to pick up 1077 today. And your mod is exactly on my list of mods.
Where did you find that lil pressure gauge?
Can you fill it from an air compressor? Or do you use just a bigger co2 tank? |

I have a local paintball place fill it for a buck or so. You could fill it from larger paintball tanks if you wanted, or even 5-20lb bulk tanks from a kegging system (by turning the tank upside down due to lack of syphon tube).
The gauage I got on ebay from a paintball supplier, fairly common in that sport. I think the cost was under $5 shipped.
The most involved part was making the brass adapter that the ASA adapter screws into. If you take apart the rifle, you'll see that there is a brass tube that meets up with this. Inside there are a few o-ring and the machining needed to be carefully done to insure that everything seals properly. This isn't a huge deal if you have a lathe and a mill available. |
