Is there a recommended type or rating for safety eyewear when using a pellet gun?

I'm interested in getting back into the pellet gun hobby and I thought I'd learn about safety first.

I don't believe there is any particular standard for airgun use, but most glasses I've seen also conform to the standards for general industry. In the U.S. that would be ANSI Z81.1 (American National Standards Institute). I have also noticed that if you go to Walmart, the glasses in the sporting goods section are more expensive than the ones in the tool section - for essentially the same thing.

If you don't already wear glasses I would consider purchasing polycarbonat safety glasses. They can be found at Lowes or most any place that sells power tools. Some power tools even come with these glasses. The price for basic glasses is usually $2-$3. PA has quit a few different styles...

Id have to say something is better then nothing but having a certification is definitly adviced. Here in canada things are CSA approved!

I like the glasses I get at Princess Auto. They are CSA, stop UV and have bifocal reading lenses in the bottom so I can see to work on the gun as well as shoot. All that for only about $6.

CSA Z94.3-2002 is equivalent to ANSI Z87.1. (Z81 in my first post is a typo - it should be Z87.)

Personally I use the same glasses I use for shooting firearms. They are Pyramex and are slightly tinted for outdoor use. I think they are about $8 on Amazon.
