I should have said hone. My apologies. I meant hone...and polish is for trigger parts if they need it. Just don't overdo it and get a dangerous trigger.
Heck, I'm a noob too. Don't listen to me anyway....carry on... |

#1: You can only push so much air through any given platform- the mainspring in the Phantom is about at its maximum already- you could spend $30.00 on some aftermarket spring to gain maybe 5% in power, which you could also achieve with 50 cents worth of washers. |
Let me know how many washers it takes to kick a Premier at 970-something average, if there is even enough room. I spent 17 bucks on a spring and got a 10% increase in power and somehow a smoother firing cycle.
Don't let nay-sayers drive you away, airrifleheadquarters.com is your friend and I can't get why anyone would say otherwise |

come on fellas don't misread the intent of the post. The OP has said he is on a very tight budget. So it's fair to say that spending anything on an aftermarket spring is not the best bang for your buck.
Without any parts , washers included, a really good tune can put a quest/phantom 1000 at 905-910fps. Then add a correct amount of washers and you can get to ish 925-930 with premiers. So no one is going to recommend to a new comer with a $15 budget for a scope that he should spend $17, 20, $30 on a spring which is going to gain
100-(930x100/970)=4.12%
Yes there is an infinite number of things you can do and if money is no object then I say have at'er.
But if someone is on a real budget then giving advice that's tempered by wisdom and and the best level of return for their money is what we"re going to try to do. |

what exactly are premiers? i forget :P
ive watched videos and youtube of people testing the phantom with chronometers (or whatever) and it does get rlly close to its claimed 1000fps with 7.9 gr pellets...so what are these premiers? o.0 |

| Won't matter what the pellets are, unless they are underweight (i.e. alloy) which typically make it difficult to hit the broad side of a barn at 50 feet- most rifles these days are "mis-advertised" by using much lighter pellets than would be usable. Using average weight .177 pellets (7.9gr) the maximum velocity you will see out of an unmodified Quest is around 900-ish fps. That being said, 100fps isn't going to be the difference between a good shot and a bad shot 99% of the time- so I don't think it's something to be worried about. |

| I like my Titan GP better than my storm, but it is harder and heavier to hold up. My fave it is a custom 2400 CO2 gun but it is useless in weather like this. I still knock down metal squirrels in the basement. |

Oops, forgot about that. Sorry, didn't mean to sound like I was saying the only worth while return would come from buying a bunch of after market parts. There are definitely a lot of great diy methods out there.
Try using washers at the base of the spring to add pre-load, and then try moving them to in front of the top hat which will add pre-load but also add weight to the moving matter compressing the air. You might get a bit different results.
I was a bit off on my math but this is what I got: 100-(890*100/973)= 8.53
Close though, not bad for a quick thought and a guesstimate! |
