Anyone know why they do that? SunOptics is sending me a free rebuild kit this week, but I've taken everything apart and it's all sound. O-rings all look brand new, no wear or damage to speak of. Just wondering what could possibly need replacing

Sun Optics are not very organized, or all that reliable- much like their pumps are at times.
That being said, when you say "locked up" you mean you cannot compress the pump arm? |

Does anyone make a good hand pump? I hear nothing but bad about everything on the market (that I can find.)

Seems to be a bit of a crap-shoot. The Benjamin/AirForce/Sun Optics pumps are the most dubious (and also the cheapest).

It starts off normal but gradually gets tougher to pull up. When it can still be fully extended it pulls itself down a few inches if you let go of it, more and more til it pulls itself almost all the way down, like there is suction pulling it. Everything seems fine when it's apart which is why I really can't figure it out

Has it got a stock piston and valve or a custom setup?

Are you sure the check ball is still intact? Sounds like it may not be stopping airflow properly.

If you mean that little rubber ball inside the top of the pump shaft then yes, but it does sound like it pops a bit when moving the shaft with the ends open. My first thoughts are that maybe there is a moisture problem, I wiped off all the excess grease from everything
