| Those 16gr EunJin's seem to be awfully tight in your Shadow's barrel, as judged by the huge drop in fpe when using them- you should be closer to 550fps- something's gumming up. Either that, or the increase in backpressure from the weight of the pellet is helping to point out you have a piston seal problem. |

They do fit very tight in the chamber of the Gamo. None of these rifles have more than probably 200-300 rounds through them....most is on the Gamo though. The others maybe 50 to 150 rounds each. Pretty new guns.
Since the Gamo is relatively unused, too, and the 7-8 grain pellets shoot at about the velocity I would expect, the seal is probably reasonably OK.
I wish I could get 1000 fps out of that rifle, but I suppose that advertized velocity is with a super light pellet at sea level? |

Yes unfortunately Gamo seems to advertise the velocity of the air leaving the barrel.
I'm not sure there is a pellet made that would recreate Gamo's claimed velocity....maybe a cleaning felt
However I would not try as ultra light projectiles don"t develop a good air cushion to slow the piston |

Yes I think they must have figured out a way to chrono air.
It's a good short range hunter, regardless of the numbers. I've whacked a lot of squirrels and rabbits with it...maybe 15 yards being my longest attempts and 10 yards average. (open sights).
I can't wait to get my back-ordered Daisy 22SG to try out. Pity they don't sell these over the counter where I live. I know the kinetic enegy level will likey not exceed the model 880 I already have...at least not by much...but the bigger pellets ought to hold power down range better. A lot of folks swear by the 22SG for hunting, and the real-world performance should be in the ballpark of my old (RIP) 5mm Benjamin, I think.

| ? The Daisy 22SG is rated at 550fps in .22. Daisy has been pretty good about numbers, so another manufacturer might claim it as a "700fps" model- so you will have some amount of power, but the range may not be much better than you have experience so far. |

| Would it be better for small game than the .177's I have above? I figured a .22 would be good for that. |

| Sure, larger is better for hunting (in the case of small-ish calibers anyways). But, using a not-so-powerful .22 vs. .177, the effective shooting range will be reduced, although if you make contact, the .22 pellet will carry alot more energy to the target than will the .177 due to the weight. |

Thank you. That's the advice I was hoping to find out. I know I should spend a bit more and get a hot, break-barrel .22 or something...like a nitro piston. But I really like the smooth, quietness of the multi-pumps--and the ability to shoot indoors without tearing up my backstop and scaring the dog.
I almost always hunt at 15 yards or less. I may go 20, but that's about it. I want to have good knockdown on squirrels or rabbits out to about 20 yards max with pointed or domed lead hunting pellets, and that's what I am hoping the 22SG will do for me.

Some more pellet, air rifle averaged chronograph tests (as before, at the muzzle of course...well 12 inches from it... and after good rifle break-in periods and consistant velocities--so no dieseling):
Remington Vantage 1200, .177 caliber:
Beeman 7.3 gr "coated" HP = 938 fps, 14.3 fpe
Crosman Premier 7.9 gr domed HP = 889 fps, 13.9 fpe
Daisy Avanti Match 8.4 gr wadcutter = 894 fps, 14.7 fpe
Gamo Rocket 9.5 gr "ballistic tip" (copper ball tip) = 831 fps, 14.6 fpe
Crosman Premier 10.5 gr "heavy" domed HP = 760 fps, 13.5 fpe
Eunjin 16 gr domed = 564 fps, 11.3 fpe
Beeman Grizzly X2 model 1073 dual caliber, using the .22 caliber barrel:
Crosman Premier 14.3 gr domed HP = 733 fps, 17.0 fpe
...these are the only .22 cal pellets I have for this rifle so far, but I am very happy with their accuracy, penetration, and hitting power in this gun. |

On the Vantage you have a typical springer's reaction to different pellet weights.... Yours produces the most energy with pellets in the middle weights, 8.4 gr.... I suggest you try some JSB Exact 8.4 gr. and H&N FTTs 8.6 gr....

Yes it (they) seem to have a "happy medium" and it seems the ordinary pellet weights are engineered to hit the peak power range. I think this is pretty true for my pump-up pneumatics, too...the part about a peak power for pellet weight anyway. They like the heavies best.
Thanks for the advice, I am ready to put together anothe Pyramyd Air order and would like to try those. I have heard almost all good things about them.
Also, today, I picked up some Daisy Precision Max .22 caliber pointed pellets locally. I had poor accuracy in .177 cal. with these, but this is all Scheels had in .22. I will try them out for now. I hope they work better in .22 than the .177 I had. If not...oh well I only got one tin, and I have plenty of the Crosman Premiers on hand. I wanted pointed though, for the Daisy 22SG I ordered. The velocity of that is much lower than my springer, and I think the pointed might be a slight boost to penetration at sub-600 fps.
I will carry the 22 SG out back for crows, mostly.
Sorry, I'm totally rambling here. |

I had a 22 sg for almost 2 years till my nephew broke it . It was a sweet lil rifle that was a solid performer out to 25 yards maybe 30. I used it mostly to hunt and plink with. It would shoot beeman laser pellets at 534 fps Giving about 8.5 fpe. The best pellets i used out of the 22 sg is the rws super h points. |

I never tried H points, unfortunately, I was fixing a leak and could never get the 22SG to shoot right after than, so it's scrapped for parts already. A fun gun, but a short lived one.
Since then I have got a Discovery, and an RWS 34, both in 22 cal and a lot hotter. he Disco has all the smooth, easy shooting of the pumper, but more 3 times the power. I still miss that 22SG I had briefly.

My SG when it broke just wouldn't hold air. I was gonna get it fixed since im sure it would of been cheap but my great little nephew decided to take it apart and break it. I wouldnt miss the SG to much cause it seems you replaced it with much better rifles . |
