i understand batteries are required to light up the reticles, but do they still offer a standard black reticle in the absence of batteries? im considering buying a new scope and i want something i can always depend on.
also on a side note, can you guys give me any suggestions? i have a .22 nitro piston and i want to upgrade the optics to something like 3-12x or 4-16x, 1 in tube, mil dots, and most importantly(i cant stress this enough) something that will hold its zero. looking to spend under $100.. and i mean UNDER lol thanks in advance |

Yes, the reticle is black when the illumination is turned off (or the battery is dead).... I've never found them to be much more than a gimmick.... They frequently cause glare even at the lowest brightness setting....

| I'm very pleased with my Hawke scopes with illuminated reticle. It gives me more time just as the sun is setting to shoot. At a point the darkness makes the cross hairs hard to see, but the illumination lets me shoot just a little more. In the evening when the wind is near zero I like to get all the shots in I can. |
