I have a spot in my backyard behind my garage that I use for target practice. On my way out to my "pistol range" I keep the air gun concealed. I don't want the neighbors to get frantic. My Sig Sauer looks pretty realistic.

Do you fellows have problems using your air guns in your yards?

I live in the "Hardwoods," so no one really cares around me. However, in Town there are people that have actually gotten the Cops called on them for their Air Rifles/Pistols.

It's illegal in my town to discharge a BB or pellet gun within the city limits, so I don't shoot outside in my yard. Those rabbits messing up my wife's garden must have been hit by a stone flung by a car tire.

That's your story and you're sticking to it right? LOL

Y'know it never occurred to me that I'm not allowed to discharge an airgun within my town limits. I should ask somebody before I get a visit from "the authorities" and have them confiscate my airguns.

Yes, draconian laws like this were caused by kids careless use of air guns back when every kid had at least a BB gun.

As an example about 15>20 years ago every plate glass window in our business district was shot with one or more pellets causing thousands of dollars in glass damage. City council then banned all air guns.

They caught the kids that did it and their parents paid plenty but the law is now on the books.........forever. Crying or Very sad

A few years ago I got the law changed to allow the use of airguns for "educational or training purposes, with city council permission." This let us use the 4H building at the fairgrounds. I suppose (hypothetically) if I were to contemplate a basement 10m range I would need to apply for permission. I would hope that my tax dollars aren't being used to fund a secret BB S.W.A.T. team that goes out at night, crawling in the dirt to peer into people's basement windows in search of possible violations. But you never know.

My neighborhood is pretty cool with it, and there are no laws against it. As long as I don't point or shoot towards one of there houses (which I never would anyway), they're fine.

THIS is the way it should be. You can do any peaceful activity on your property that you want.

IF I may ask:
What City and State are you in that you can't even shoot in your own yard?!
We are aloud to here in Suffolk, Va., YOU just have to make sure NO Pellets\bbs go out of your yard.
Wink
Also for the comment about being in the books forever.... Don't think like that because just this Year BOTH Chesapeak and Portsmouth just changed their laws about this, so PEPS can once again shoot in their own yards! Very Happy

I live in a small midwestern rural town where the city code say......."It is illegal to discharge any firearm or air gun within city limits. "

By use of the word "discharge" it is illegal to even have a range indoors!!!!!

I asked the people at my local town hall and they said that they didn't have any by laws at all about discharging any type of firearm (airguns included I assume) within town limits but they did ask me to check with the RCMP.

However after a quick survey of my yard I realize it's not big enough to do shooting at any decent distance. Time for a drive out to the local rifle/pistol range.
