Brilliant job Al

I'm drooling over that breech. I just finished rebarreling mine last night. Tonight will tell the tale of success or failure

I saw one of these on the internet, a two stage trigger for a QB. I think it was designed by a guy called Steve? and sold by Archers. Anyway I made one to try and it is simple and works well giving you a definite indication that the shear is about to break.

Another thing I saw was a gun stock for an AGS PCP rifle, for around $16.00 inc P&P, so I thought at that price I have got to have one and with a bit of luck and brute force it will fit my QB. Mr. Green

Al have you seen the seen the trigger unit on the AR2078

It is a very nice piece and I'm sure you could mod the existing trigger very easily. Basically the shoe is hinged with a tiny piece of spring wire in the hinge. That gives the first stage travel and if the 2nd stage is set a hair above that it's really a nice trigger.

If your interested I'll post a pic of the guts of mine

Yes please post a picture, I figured out that the shoe was hinged but not how it worked

I use a tiny spring-loaded plunger for the 2nd stage.... It's basically a 1/2" long 6-32 threaded setscrew with a small spring-loaded pin sticking out about 1/16" on one end.... You drill and tap the middle hole to 6-32 and wind it in with the pin forward so that the trigger comes up against it to create a second stage by the increased pressure of the spring-loaded pin.... They work great....

Bottom of this KBC Tools catalogue page....

http://www.kbctools.com/can/Navigation/NavPDF.cfm?PDFPage=793

Part # 1-903-52001.... The pin force is high, but because of the leverage it works great.... The lighter pressure ones would not be stiff enough.... I cut a small slot in the outer end with a Dremel to aid installation.... I see they are adjustable for pressure, but the allen key required is smaller than anything I have even seen....

Here you are Al

The concept is very similar to some plunger style triggers used on match guns

Bob I like the plunger idea it is a similar to the one I have fitted at the moment but better, I’ll knock one up to-day and give it a try. Cheers!

Sean That an interesting concept and thanks for going to the trouble of striping it out for the photos.

The only problem I have with the idea is that as far as I can see it is not a proper two stage unit, it does appear that the trigger sits on the shear break point at all times, and the first stage actually does nothing apart from moving the hinged trigger, if I have understood this concept correctly then the gun would be unsafe as the shear could trip if you banged or dropped the gun.

Have I got it correct or have I missed something?

Al

Bob I quickly knocked up a copy of the plunger and it works very well, very similar to the previous one I fitted but more refined.

Cheers

PS
Have a look at Sean’s two stage unit am I right in thinking that it isn’t a true two stage unit ?

Al you are very correct it sits on the sear edge and the first stage is a spring loaded shoe.
This is great for a match trigger. Steyr uses something similar.

As a hunting rifle it's probably iffy...It did do the bounce test on mine and it was fine but......

However it was meant to be a match trigger

I should think for match shooting it would be OK in fact I should think it is very smooth action. I tend to spend a bit of time ratting in old barns and outhouses, and you do tend to knock the gun accasionaly.

Similar in concept to what I did with the Mendoza, but far more elegant:

Al- I applaud your facility with the fabrication of really small parts. That would be a stretch for my pudgy fingers and elderly eyes.

Bob- Thanks for the link. The idea could be applicable to a host of guns. You could probably even convert a Red Ryder or Crosman 760 if you wanted to.

Al, have you considered an overtravel limiter?

As for the stock - hell yes.

I have just had a look to see if there is room for a limiter, and yes there is so thats another job for tomorow.

The trouble is I'm doing two guns at the same time and it gets a bit confusing at times, I still have the second breach to finish off before I get fed up with it.

The stock will also be here later this week and it's going on my QB, so I know what will happen I'll be playing around with it for a day or too and nothing will get done.

An altogether too familiar story. Laughing

Very nice work Al.

Regards,
