Yesterday, while I was home, somebody kicked in my front door. I at first thought it was a car wreck because I live next to a very busy street, but when I got upstairs from my basement, the front door was standing wide open with splinters of wood lying all around. They must have ran out while I was coming up the stairs because there was nobody in the house when the police got here. I had gotten to the top of the stairs and when I saw the front door open, I grabbed the phone and ran outside to call from there. I wasn't about to stay in the house with not knowing who or what was in there.

The police came inside and checked everything out while I waited outside and didn't find anything. They had even set up a perimiter and didn't find anyone who wasn't where they were supposed to be. I needless to say called my wife and had her come home from work, so I could repair the door to make it functional again.

I replaced all of the broken pine with red oak and used a several inch long piece of brass-plated steel to make a new door jamb. I made sure that if somebody was going to try to kick it down again that they were going to have a hard job doing it. Most of the screws in the doorframe are 3 inches long.

I now have my set of throwing knives in a case hanging on the wall in my hallway so if somebody does get in, they are going to be hurting very badly. I've been throwing knives since my grandfather taught me how at the tender age of 13. I may not own any powder-burners, but I can sure put the hurt on somebody at close range.

A lot of you on here know that I am on disability, so I spend lots of time by myself in my house. I am going to make sure that they aren't going to catch me unawares next time, and they will be met well. I also ordered a sword from a reputable martial arts company and that will be underneath the couch in my living room. I won't be ran out of my own house again.

I am glad that it happened to my house though, because most of my neighbors are elderly and it would be a shame if somebody hurt one of them. I try to keep my eye out for most of my neighbors and they do the same for me. I think that in this day and age most people are too caught up in their own lives to meet or talk to their neighbors nowadays and it's sad.

I hunt squirrels and starlings for my neighbors so that they don't get their bird feeders robbed, so I know most of my neighbors on a first name basis. I have a couple who don't like me hunting in the neighborhood, but most of my other neighbors cover for me. They will even hide me in their house or garage if one of them spots a cop. lol I have a good life and I won't let some punk looking for quick money make me a prisoner in my own house or do it to the other neighbors in my neighborhood.

I really don't have a point to this story, I am just trying to warn other people about what can happen all too quickly in this day and age. Be careful out there and know your neighbors so you can easily spot something wrong if you need to. Have a good day everyone!

You better believe it Broom. Where I live, a knife or sword is considered defensive where whereas a gun is considered deadly force. I have no problem doing some serious damage.

Here's what it looked like:

Here's what it looks like now :

They didn’t hang about getting in did they, do you think you were targeted or was it just a random break-in? The problem is if it is random or spur of the moment, they were probably high on drugs, and if so the only thing that will stop them is a .45 through the head, so be careful Todd.

Al

Honestly, the more I think about it, I think it was targeted. Without going into the whole rigamarole, I think it was my daughter's boyfriend looking for my grandson who is now in head start. He is no longer home with me during the day. I have sole custody and she doesn't have any visitation rights. I'd have no problem messing him up. He is a racist lying lazy bastard.

Here's a pic of my beautiful wonderful grandson :

Her boyfriend told me once that Dimitri belongs with his own kind.

I have 5 years of Tai Kwon Do, and 5 years of Jeet Kun Do training. I also have a lot of training in Jiu Jitsu. Before I got sick it was one of my main hobbies. I still am able enough to put up a really good fight, especially in those situations. Plus as big as I am helps alot in intimidation. Laughing

You need a gun todd. Swords and knives won't protect you with multiple intruders especially if they have guns which they likely will.

You said you're on facebook so be careful what info you share there, here and anywhere online since you don't want thugs knowing when you're there, when you're leaving somewhere, what you have in there and where it's at like you mentioned the sword under your couch.

If I was allowed to own a gun I would one shot. Part of my disability makes it against the law for me to own one. Best I can do is my knives and my crossbow. I can't leave the crossbow cocked all the time. Knives are my only option. I wish I could own a gun. I share a lot on here, but I don't give out my address more than my city on either here or facebook. I am kinda hard to find since I don't have anything in my name either. I don't even have my telephone listed. lol

I am trying to scrape together enough for one after this stuff happened, but it won't be for a while yet. I figure a big bore .50 cal oughta have some knockdown. I am also looking into the law about my purchasing a old army cap n ball pistol. I know in indiana where I used to live anyone could own one, but I am not sure about where I live now.

Good. I'm not familiar with them. Are there multi shot big bore pcp guns? If so that would be the best protection since it's usually not just one thug breaking in but several.

Louisville Slugger..="no noise"....well except for the occasional scream... Twisted Evil Faq-U Razz
A Ruger Old Army "They chamber .457 ball" could work nice for back up if it flies in your area, and in your circumstances. They'll handle any charge you can stuff in 'em. Wink
