I want to get another air rifle for Christmas. I wanted the Crosman 1077 since it looks really cool, you can customize it, uses the 12gram CO2s, and it's a cheap repeater.

The other day I had a chance to shoot my friend's QB57 and I loved it! It looks and shoots really well and is a little cheaper than the Crosman. I will only be target shooting with either of these rifles. Which one would you get and why? Help me decide! Thanks.

Have you looked at a QB78 Deluxe? All steel and wood, it's a solid base for improvements. Had a 1077... usable once you get used to the trigger, but it's really only a pop can gun. The 78 starts out that way, but can be made into something which is MUCH more. Best bang for the buck going IMO.

Also, the QB78D is available in .22, which happens to be my favorite caliber at the moment. Laughing

AND....it's only a matter of time before Bob will be along with a "how to" to derive the most from it. Wink

The QB 57 is a great little gun. quite accurate from my experience and once bought it's free to shoot. However for target work it is still a springer and that makes it a little more difficult to shoot consistently. I personally am not a fan of the AK look but it performs. And you can swap barrels in a flash.

For a CO2 gun I agree with gippeto the QB78 is a MUCH better value for $70ish. Wood and steel versus lots of plastic and stamping metal. Once you get a 78 dialed in they are consistent solid shooters. add another $15 for the QB78Deluxe and you have a platform that can be modded and improved upon to your hearts content

Everyone I know who owns a 1077 complains that they leak frequently. I think it's simply not beefy enough where it counts. But working the 1077 is a blast for the ability to blast off a clip.

So in summary.
Springer free to shot but less consistent
CO2 more consistent but your buying propellant

Great advice guys. I just checked out the QB78 on Archer air guns. That looks like a MUCH better gun for the price just like you guys said. Thanks again for the advice, I think I'll be getting the QB78 for Chistmas!

The QB79 is really interesting too compared to the QB78. I like the use of the refillable 9oz paintball tank idea. You can spend more time shooting and less time changing co2 cartriges. Gun is still under $100. What do you guys think between these two?

QB78/79 is a good platform. You can always choose to change it to HPA. Razz

Gippeto you are correct about the paintball tanks. Some will not fit if they are too wide. As long as the paintball tanks are 2" or less, they will fit directly on the gun.

I am lucky to have a paintball store right across the street from my house. I can walk there to fill up anytime so that will be a plus. I am really leaning towards the QB79 now. Thanks again for your help.

Both the 78 or the 79 can be filled from a bulk CO2 source. And they can both be used with high pressure air.

However the tube volume is bigger on the 78 which lends itself to being filled with high pressure air. The 79 would require a bottle or hose permanently attached in order to have volume.

So personally I would buy the one that visually looks best to you.
