I have a Lee bottom pour pot and purchased pure lead ingots.... I used a Lee 120 gr. mold in .308 cal.... and cast about 7 lbs. of bullets.... The obvious culls were thrown back into the pot (maybe 25?) along with the sprues.... I ended up with 240 good bullets, plus 160 good enough for using with the Chrony (a few wrinkles or a bit frosted but the mold completely filled), and 25 that either weren't completely filled in the base (rounded corner), badly wrinkled, a pocket in the base, or some other major flal that will be remelted.... Here are the results of my first efforts.... The two tins on the left hold 120 each of 1st quality, the other two tins are "Chrony" quality.... So how do you think I did?.... I used to cast my own for my .50 cal muzzle loading rifle and it's kind of time consuming to get all perfect ones. I'll just give all my boys paintball guns and sic em on him. They are especially accurate for the groin area for some reason. I think you did s great job on your first pour.When I was into black powder,I used to pour for the Ruger Old Army which chambers rounds in .457.I only poured round ball though,so I imagine that pouring bullets could be a-little more difficult.It was a smart move to purchase the lead ingots....I used every old fishing sinker I could find......slag city doing it that way though. A-little off topic,but if you guys play with black powder pistols I would seriously consider an Old Army...they're very stout.They can handle ANY charge you can stuff into the cylinder.. Not so with some off the other reproductions...specifically with brass frames.Get too crazy with the charges in those,and they can blow up in your hand....."yes it happened to me,and no it wasn't fun"...I'm so lucky,I still have all my digits In most pistols other than the Old Army I recommend Pyrodex pellets....much safer that way.
