Hi, I've got a Browning 800 Mag, that I'm very happy with:

... but now I'm looking to attach a scope to it. I'm considering four different alternatives, all of them Walthers: PS 55 Red Reticle Point Sight, PS 22 Red Dot Point Sight, Multi-Reticle Point Sight, and Top Point 1 Red Dot Sight.

If anyone has any advice, I would be very grateful to hear it. Not just about these four scopes, but also any alternatives.

Thank you! Yeah, it looks pretty good. It shoots great, but I really need a scope for it. So I have actually gone ahead and ordered the Walther PS 55 now. I'll report back once it arrives (could be a couple of weeks; I cheaped out on the shipping, heh).

The Walther PS 55 was a bust. It quit after a dozen shots so I replaced the battery. It quit again after half a dozen shots. I replaced the battery once more, but it finally quit for good after two more shots.

I sent it back, and thankfully Pyramidair gave me a complete refund. The scope's lens covers were a huge pain (to remove and put back, because you have to stretch these strong rubber bands out, and inevitably end up smearing the bendy rubber lens covers all over the lens. Ugh) and I didn't like the reticle much either, so in the end I'm almost glad the silly thing crapped out on me.

I've learned the difference between the 11mm-3/8" dovetail mount and the 5/8" Weaver-Picatinni rails. So what I've got my eyes on now is a BSA 30mm Red Dot with a dual 5/8" and 3/5" integral mount so I won't have to use a dove tail-Weaver adapter. Also, it's less than half the Walther scope.

I thought of buying a Browning 800, but after researching it regarding needed optics, it seems that the gun eats scopes. Many complaints with the same tone. RC

I like red dot sights on pistols - they're fast on target and easy to use. I have BSA sights on a Marksman 2004 (Beeman P17) and also a Browning .22LR. Both suffer from "parallax error" (if that term applies to a red dot). If you hold the gun still and move your head you will notice the dot moving around. The trick is to hold the dot in the center of the visible field for each shot. That's easy on a long arm, because your cheek weld provides the consistency. A pistol is a little tougher. I wound up sanding the paint off the rear of the ocular bezel to provide a shiny reference ring.
