I live outside of chicago about 50 miles southeast of chicago . I have been doing some reading on your forum and it really had alot of good information in here so I thought I would join with the hopes of learning a little bit or alot about these different types of air guns .
What prompted me to start reading about a bb gun was , about 4 days ago at around 1:30 am my 2 dogs were going crazy running around letting me know something was going on outside , so i grabbed my dog the bounty hunter 1 mill candle power flashlight and let the 2 dogs outside with my piece ...when i turn on the light out back ( i live on about 2 acres and so do most of my neighbors ) and turn on the huge flashlight I see my 2 dogs fighting for there lives with 3 coyotes ...1 of my dogs is about 5 yrs old and she is a 75-80 shepard and my other dog is an australian herding dog .....My 2 dogs held there own really well ...the concern I had is if the coyotes have rabies .... So i took both of the dogs the next morning right to the vet and they were up on there rabies shots and all looked good ...One of the dogs had gray hair stuck in his teeth and the vet took it out and said it was definitely coyotes....So I am looking for something that I can scare the heck out of them but I dont want to kill them .... Any suggestions ....I would also like it to be full auto if possible ..Thanks in advance for any suggestions .. |

Welcome from NE Indiana. We have the same issues with coyotes here. They have killed several large breed dogs in our area. The coyotes will keep coming back until you kill them, there is no "just scaring them away". I find their tracks on the back of our property frequently. Coyotes are becoming such a problem that I see they are making shotgun loads designed just for coyotes.

Hope your dogs heal and you can rid you property of the "yotes" that did them harm. |

| Stu's right. I kill yotes at least once a month on my farm with my 30.06. I drop them at about 100 yards. They will keep coming back until they are dead, and frequently will feed on the dead carcasses of their own kind. I have cattle on the farm and I have had several calves killed by them. I don't have a house on my farm yet to be able to hunt them all the time, so I can't get their patterns. Once I get my house built and I do have a constant presence, I will be hunting them every night till I have wiped them out. Good luck with your dogs, but keep them inside at night is my advice. Either that or put up a good sturdy fence. |
