I am a new pellet rifle owner, a Beeman RS2. Currently using the 0.177 barrel.
Occasionally when fired the noise is louder than normal and it kicks harder. It is not dry firing as there was a pellet loaded. Any idea why this is happening?
I am shooting Crossman pellets, if that is of any help.
I am very pleased with the rifle and find that it is very accurate for ridding our property of ground squirrels which have chewed through the engine wiring on our cars.

It sounds like you rifle is dieseling, this is when there is a small amount of oil is in the barrel or compression tube, as new guns tend to have a preservative in the barrel to prevent rust. You could try cleaning the barrel using clean dry patches of cloth. Or hopefully it should go away after you have put a few shots through it.

| My RS2 was greasier than heck when I got it too and it did the exact same yours did. I always clean the barrel when I get a new airgun and it still dieseled. Don't worry it will go away soon. |

I didn't give you all the information about the problem.
I have shot about two hundred 0.177 pellets since I purchased it, and the louder noise has happened about 4-5 times at random through the two hundred shots.
I will give it a cleaning and see if that helps.
Since it is a single shot I look over each pellet while loading and haven't rejected any pellets for damage, if I drop one I discard it.

Oil in the compression chamber, no. I'll have to get the manual out and see where, what kind and how much.

| The reason I asked was because a low flash point oil in there could diesel and cause the effect you described. It's probably still burning out the "fuel" that came from the factory. |

Putting oil in the compression chamber is not recommended and Slavia was just asking, not recommending. Your manual may not say anything about it. But the fact is that the dieseling that can be caused by oil in the compression chamber can damage your rifle. |
