For anything that can literally kill you while still wounded go powderburner.

12Ga with a 1-4X Leupold even with a smooth bore. You can put a slug through the head at 100 yards and still manage to bury it in the chest at 160 yards

I'd have to agree with Todd, hunting Wild Hogs is a job for someone with a firearm of at least 243 caliber or above but more than that it's also important to use the right kind of bullet for the best result just like matching pellets to the job at hand.

I in most cases I would think pellet rifles don't have the impact needed to down a decent size Wild Hog. In fact there are supposed to be some very close to my location as a neighbor told me he positioned a game camera to check for Bucks and got shots of Wild Pigs up the hill from where I'm at.

So I'll let you know how the Benjamin Trail NP .177 handles them? Oh, I'm going to use the 8.5 grn Gamo on them so no fear! Plenty of impact and knock down power! Rolling Eyes

Don't even think about it with a Pellet rifle! Shocked

I have seen many people take pigs with big bore air guns Like the 9M, 308, 45, and 50 cals. Personally since I have seen some of these beasts a little to close, I would want something that has a magazine, for the just in case follow up shot. Just my 2 cents.

I don't even think I'd take a 10 yard shot from inside a truck using my XL 1100 on a wild hog, and not even my Disco once I follow rsterne's advice/instructions on getting it up around the 32 fp/e mark. Do yourself a favor and get the Winchester Partition Gold saboted slugs rated at 1900 fps, or the 3" mags rated at 2000 and ensure your own safety with a quick kill

I've never hunted Wild Hogs but as some of the other guy has said I'm very sure most any of the larger hogs can be very dangerous for sure! I would think that a person should have at least a .308 loaded with at least a 150 grain balistic tip bullet and at least 4 rounds for back-up.

I do have the perfect gun though as claimed by Hornady, a 450 Bushmaster that shoots a .45 caliber bullet in AR format rifle that pushes a 250 grain balistic tip slug at 2000+ ft/sec and if I remember has about 2685 ft lbs of energy at 100 yrds. The bullet is so big that as it travels through the air that fast it whistles.

The .450 cartridge is claimed to be able to take down any North American Game Animal. And magazines are available in five & ten rounds capacity.

For Gods sake and your own safety don't even think of shooting a half way decent size Hog with anything but a really big bore Air Rifle or a large caliber fire Arm.

As potent as these new Air Rifles are they are no match for really any medium size animals so don't even consider it. Ok?

I use my remington 700 .270 centerfire Bolt Action on hogs! Pellet gun? No way lol WTF?

They're also CO2 powered, I'm not kidding.

Those bolts looked nasty by the way. Large calibers too.

I also heard a personal story from a guy who actually went there (sailor, when you work on a ship you'll run into Phillipinos soon enough) and told me they hunt like that.
