I'm interested in either of these two scopes in a 4-16 x56 with side focus and
Illuminated Mil-Dot reticle.

My basic question is will they withstand the shock of an NP rifle like the Benjamin .177 I have while maintaining zero?

Your help is appreciated.

David

The CenterPoint will hold up (and has a proper warranty if by some chance it doesn't), the Leapers tend to be a bit more finicky- some models will hold up A-Ok, some not so much.

Thanks Eric,
I sent an email to leapers about their 30mm tube 4-16 x56 illuminatede SWAT scope and Maggie Zhou returned a very informative message saying that this scope should hold up fine as they are tested for back and forth shock before they pass inspection.

This scope offers a number other real nice features including a touch pad adjustment for illumination plus retention of last color and intensity setting.

It sounds like quite a deal to me.

Yeah- believe Leapers- NOT.

Leapers is focused on pushing product out the door- not unlike many manufacturers. They, like some others, have claimed all their products are "airgun compatible" and are betting on the fact that 90% will never be put on a springer.

Get an independent opinion not jaded by sales motivation- or at least from a vendor you know you can trust- but in my view, Leapers is not an opinion you should rely on for one of their scopes.

My personal opinion is centerpoint. I like them and the 3 I've got on springers are holding up very well. Good luck on whichever one you pick, but I would go for one with not any gadgets and gizmos. The simpler they are usually the sturdier they are. I could be wrong though, but I like my centerpoints so far.

To Eric & Todd,

I just throughly reviewed Leapers site and the fairly extensive information it contained about their Accushot line of scopes which the 4-16 x56 is one of along with SWAT [side wheel adjustable turret] for focusing and it's illuminated Red & Green which are touch sensative and can be changed back and forth while maintaining the brightness setting as well as black of course.

They show the scope has under gone extensive testing with both front and back shock testing and development.

Tom Gaylord who writes for many air gun magazines states that the Webley Patriot/ Beeman Kodak Rifle has one of the hardest recoils in the business and the Leapers 3-9 x40 was tested with over 750 shots using the heaviest pellets and the scope performed with flying colors and the Red-Green illumination was still working perfectly at the end of the test.

Now while the test was on a 3-9 x40 rather than a 4-16 x56mm it would seem this even the higher power scope should also handle the shock per Leapers extensive testing.

I'll say this, I believe Leapers will stand behind their Lifetime warranty should the scope fail due to the shock of the Nitro Piston Benjamin. As I've stated before it more than appears Center/Point is nothing more than an older Leapers product as the turrets are identical in all the photos I've seen. Also Center/Point doesn't have a web site with all the information Leapers has on their site. In fact if something goes wrong with CP where do you turn but to Crosman?

I understand that the Leapers warranty in the USA is great.... In Canada it is basically non-existent (ie return it to the USA but then they can't send you a replacement because it is illegal to export optics from the US without a $380 permit)....

Having said that, I have had a Leapers 3-9 x 40 AO on three different springers.... I sold it on my B-28 (350 clone) and it's still going strong....

Hi Rstern,

Thanks for your input, judging everything I've received from Leapers which states that at least here in the U.S.A. it carries a Lifetime Warranty to the original purchaser, sounds very good to me.

There are qualifications to the "Lifetime Warranty" which people have encountered before.

For example, scope you bought this year for $150.00 gets discontinued next year- Leapers takes scope back from you and has, as people have found in the past, says "discontinued, but we will 'upgrade' your unit to the newest model, but it's list price is $180.00- you pay the price difference ($30.00) and we will send it on to you.

I would also not make assumptions about their 3-9x40 that did hold up being the same as a 4-16x56- more moving parts and not necessarily the same scope at all. If you want to follow reviews like the Gaylord one- buy the same scope as the one Gaylord used- not assume a radically different substitute is the same- it obviously isn't- find reviews on it.

Anyways- you can do what you want either way- all I'm suggesting is find reviews on the SPECIFIC scope you like, not assume scope 'A' was great therefore scope 'H' will be the same- I have said it before and will say it again, almost all manufacturers have a few lemon models and the only way to figure which they are is to listen to people (not the manufacturer) who have used the specific unit you are thinking of buying to determine if it is one of the lemons or not.

The first part of what you state about the product having to be returned and possibly up graded can happen with any mfg when a model is pased out for a newer and better design. That just seems to unfortunately be the way things are advancing. For example the Windows operating system which forces you to upgrade weather you want or need to or not! Evil or Very Mad So it seems to be with rifle scopes too at one point or another.

Now, while I agree with the point your making about not assuming the 4-16 x56 scope I like is the same as the 3-9 x40 as tested out by Gaylord even Leapers states it goes through the same rigerous testing as the 3-9 x 40 so it's hard not to assume it should stand up to the punishment the NP will put it through. I'm trying to get set up with leapers to market their line of scopes so I have to see what happens?

From the info their site provided along with what came direct from Leapers
I believe the 4-16 x56 SWAT [Side Wheel Adjustable Turret {side focusing}] with their EZ Tap Dual Red & Green Illumated Mil-Dot Reticle should hold up just fine. I may be testing it out for them too in the process? I'm a believer so I'll have to see what happens? As you say someone has to test it out and I just happen to have an NP with considerable jarring force to do that.

The way I view the situation Eric, is that if any manufacturer is competent in testing it products it would be suicide for them to make claims that were unfounded. Granted nothing beats real world testing but two very similiar scopes would probably test out very much the same real world or otherwise. I guess we shall see shortly.

I'm getting that you don't have much experience dealing with Chinese-owned businesses in the past.

That's ok- live and learn and all that.
