Hello to everybody, I am new to the forum! I recently bought a brand new Remington Vantage 1200(fps) and its very accurate. I love the gun.Its accuracy without a scope is very accurate but I am having trouble for some reason with the scope and another scope thats a bushnell scope as well. Im using .177 caliber pointed lead pellets and for some reason I will shoot the gun and hit targets bulls eye at around 60 feet like the bottom of beer cans but for some reason give it a good day or two of shooting and for some reason I shoot again and the shot is off. Sometimes I will shoot and be aiming at the same target(paper) Each shot might be off every so often. Im using a table to rest on for better accuracy! Would any of you know what could be causing the problem. I never had a problem with this with my High Powered Firearm bullet rifles but just a few pellet guns. I love shooting pellet guns alot so Im going to continue to try and fix this problem. I would appreciate even just a slight bit of advice/help.Thank you very much[/b]

The two most likely culprits are either a poor lockup between the barrel and breech (causing the barrel to sit differently relative to the scope).... or a different cheek weld causing your eye to be in a different position relative to the scope (especially if your scope is not an AO or is adjusted to the wrong range).... causing parallax errors....

Well first off, what kind of scope do you have?.... Does it have an adjustable objective (marked off in yards on the front bell of the scope).... Did you have it set for the distances you were shooting at?....

Bob said..."poor lockup between the barrel and breech"

What he is saying is that your barrel might be loose a little so when you break it down to set the spring, and then snap it back up to close it, it's not locking up properly and the barrel is shifting a little differently each time you shoot.

Without a scope, you may not notice it as the front and rear sites are attached to the barrel.

Using a scope, the scope is attached to the top of the gun, separate from the barrel allowing for misalignment between the barrel and scope.

It could also be differences between pellets, even out of the same tin. Minor weight and size differences between pellets.

Most of my scoped guns never shoot the same twice until they've "warmed up".

At the end of a shooting session, I'll put the gun away.... take it out again in a couple of days, and the first 15-25 pellets are all over the place. Sometimes I adjust the scope, but most times I don't, because I know once the gun warms up (heat caused by air compression) it'll be shooting well again.

You can also try tightening the pivot bolt ( the bolt that holds the barrel to the main part of the gun). Sometimes these fasteners work loose just a bit causing a bit of wobble.

My experience.... but I defer to the others who are more experienced.

Could be the way you are holding the gun also. Springer air rifles need a loose hold so they can move around when fired, unlike powder burners that you have to hold tightly. Do a search for artillery hold and you will find lots of articles on it.

I appreciate folks, you guys are all very helpful. I noticed that too when the gun warms up its shoots good. Im going to check all this out. Even though its a brand new gun I still might check the barrel for looseness. Thanks once again! Cool

I was wondering about the barrel crown too. You might check it to see if it looks nice and centered with no snags.

For centeredness (is that a word?) of the crown, you can just eyeball it.

For snags and burs, stick a q-tip down the muzzle end and then pull it back out. Look to see if it snagged any of the cotton on the crown.

Sounds like you might want to loc-tite and tighten the bolt the barrel hinges on. I had the exact problem with my Genesis when I first got it, could hit anything with the sights but the scope was worthless. Once I did that I could hit anything with it scoped.

the barrel locks up pretty tight, after I pump it. I got the scope real accurate now. I hope it stays that way.

well that was yesterday,it shot alright, just set the scope some more its not that bad now.it shoots pretty darn accurate so im happy about that. i guess it just varies cause the weight size in pellets and the wind plus im shaky at most of times to but i figured out how to fix that by holding the gun tighter. drinkn while im shooting to ,lol. Its alright. thanks
