With over 2000 air gun muzzle brakes made in the last two years... I started noticing some swirling on finish cuts.... about the same pitch as my feed screw.... It turns out... I had .0005" of run out on my spindle...

I decided not to take any chances and ordered a complete new head from LMC... It wasn't too bad.. just $120 + some shipping. It only took about an hour to clean and swap everything out.

It did the trick. Now I'm back to getting outstanding finishes again. Of course the new indexable tips helped out too...

Since I was going to be down for a bit... I also ordered the Double 1/2 nut upgrade to get a better grip on the feed screw... $25 upgrade... Damn it's easier to align the apron and the feed is smoother than ever.

One more added bonus of the Double 1/2 nut is that... the lower nut is adjustable....

I found a chunk of the apron casting was missing... It's still usable and I'll just put one on my next LMC order.

Double 1/2 Nut

O.E. Single 1/2 nut set up.

The people at Little Machine Shop are awesome. If you have a mini-Mill or Lathe... I highly suggest using them for upgrades, parts and tooling.

Hey Joe what's the lowest speed you can get out of your mini lathe? My brother in law wants a small lathe for threading jobs and he doesn’t have much room for a larger lathe.

It's totally variable. 50-2500 rpm

Your local vender...

This one has most of the mods I did to my 7x10 all ready, including the 550w motor, a 4" spindle head and chuck.

I don't ever recomend getting a 7x10... it's just too damn small to do any good work. Unless your turning writing pens...

That’s what I was worried about, but I do believe you can get one with an updated inverter drive which gives you full power at low speed, I just wondered whether Joe's was like that.

This is all I could find Joe , but how much power it has at low speed I'm not sure. you need bags of power for threading.
